5830 days ago Interesting Day on the Island. The predictions were for 30 knots & a mix of tidal options-the plan was for a quick sail on the Eastern Run in the morning ,a sail on the Northern Run at lunch & then a quick sail on the eastern run before running to catch the boat back to Cairns to go to work ...
We were greeted by Grey Skies ,huge seas & very strong wind but a rapidly retreating tide meant only 4 Eastern Runs before the water became too shallow.Out wide it was the worst chop I've sailed in for months so we retreated until low tide .
As low tide approached a series of rain squalls moved in turning the Northern Run into something resembling a washing machine wash-on the second run out my fin cavitated resulting in an in harness wipe out & another completely destroyed X9 180-230 boom .(both arms snapped)AHHRRRrr.A very unpleasant swim & reef crossing followed...
The Eastern Run became operational again at 315 pm so after a couple of tentative scouting runs the pedal went down with some nice speeds resulting .!!!
CA47 Maui Ultra Speed 24 Rsr 6.2
Tried the Naish sp95 & caspar 29 out wide-the fin was brilliant but the board didnt like the chop one bit -it was brutal ...
Try again tomorrow...!!!
