Port Kennedy, WA, AU

Huge mission at Rissoles with Lao, Norts and Slowy - dragging the gear in and out on the cart was epic.

Most of the day the wind was too North resulting in horror chop on the run and tricky moments avoiding hitting the bank at the end.

Some of the bullets would have been > 30 knots.

Hung around hoping for a swing to NW, eventually when it swung it went due west - the run was super smooth but too square and the wind was too gusty to be fun.

So super hard work, but a great adventure.

Mistral 47, HSM GPS 5.5, CL 23 aymmetrical (I think?) - thanks Chris for the loan - sweet fin.

Hard work but 2nd fastest ever speed with a 42.78 display followed by the fin letting go in the hell chop and a big crash.

Luckily unscathed apart from bumps and a graze but it did dent the confidence a bit.

Got so cold at one point I had to zip myself up in my board bag!

Thanks to Recycle for the Loft Blade 5.6 (it was awesome and a keeper!)

The MXR UFO 10% was rock solid (apart from the one off which I think was at its limit for speed and chop) and really happy with the peak for 2 bits of untried kit.

Great to duke it out with Recycle and JJ and the Slow One showing us how it is done as usual.

Big congrats to JJ who was really pushing it out there and had some impressive offs.

Loft Blade 5.6, Lurch (awesome as usual!) MXR UFO 30 10% 22

Melville Beach, WA, AU 4.9K, 47Mistral, 26 choco

Arrived at lunchtime thinking 4.9. Ate lunch, changed into wetsuit, wind dropped to 6.4 levels. Thought it would pick uo so I hedged my bet and rigged 5.8. Wind picked up A LOT. Rigged 4.9. Wind picked up some more. Epic squalls, super high tide and rough and choppy. Toyed with the idea of rigging 4.0 but I needed components from both other rigs to do that. At times the wind was averaging 30 knots and I had trouble standing up on the beach let alone holding a sail. Derigged the 5.8. Thought about going home but I have never rigged two sails and dressed in wetsuit etc only to go home without a sail. Eventually got on the water during a lull at 3 O'clock. Jeff was much braver and tested out the conditions earlier. Had two nice runs and then the wind swung West and dropped right off. (Should have kept the 5.8 rigged!)

Happy with the 29 knot peak. That run had a 28 knot 10sec so it was good fun! I was hoping for more but couldn't wait around any longer.

Thanks Jeff for the company. That was a gutsy effort today.

Nice PB JJ. I thought you and Lao must have been on a secret mission somewhere when neither of you were at Melville. Not many out at all - surprising for such an awesomely windy day.

Great 2 sec Mark! That must have been exciting for you. Good to see you speedsailing again. Actually I think getting in the board bag is a brilliant piece of lateral thinking...and you have one of those rigging jackets don't you? It must have been cold.

Dr Cam, Lurch is a Lorch Division S83 (49.5 wide) 2008 vintage. Elmo christened it Lurch and the name stuck.

Windxtasy, it was warm when we set off and I foolishly left the rigging jacket in the car. The board bag had to do as a substitute.

Sausage, I am sure the photo will surface soon.

Thanks for the comments all.

Anita, your bravery makes the guys look soft Surprised  If there was a mathematical model to level the playing field, you'd be up the top through sheer guts and determination!

Ha! Thanks Patrick! If I was really brave I'd have gone out earlier when those 35 knot bullets were coming through. Jeff was out there - he was the brave one. I stood around for an hour waiting for things to calm down a bit. Coming away without injury is paramount.

I hate those days Windxtasy, didn't know WA had days like that as well. Well done for peservering. Days like that any size sail is the correct sizeLaughing are you heading over to Green Island for the Nats?

Kazza - more like any sail is the right size some of the time but the wrong size most of the time!

Would love to be going to Green Island, I have been there before and it blew 30 knots day and night all week. A pretty place too, and excellent snorkelling.

As for Nats, I need to get better at gybing to do any slalom racing! Currently I just add to the slalom markers.

30 kts!!! Hope we get a week like that. Yeah I've been to Green Island a few times now, not windsurfing just touristing and did a snorkel trip. My parents took me there when I was 5 and I remember the coral was virtually up to the shore, when I went back 10 years ago it's all dead and had to go out a fair bit to get live coral.

It's not only the Slalom Nats, they've also got GPSing Nats, no need for slalom markers there! I hope there's some other gals going or i'll have to compete against the fella's!Cry again....
