FF89, 7.0RBlade, 36 F-Hot Sl - Lammermoor Beach, QLD, AU SE 14-22kn

Bit windier than yesterday but with it came messier conditions.  Changed to the F-Hot from the S07 and have to say I was impressed although having a really low thickness to chord ratio it doesn't like the lulls too much and let go on a couple occassions.  The falcon felt better today than Tuesday although I'm starting to form the opinion that tail cut-outs are much better for open ocean sailing as they tend to dampen the ride when really winding the board up in the chop.  Compared to the iSonic the Falcon doesn't have any cut-outs and it seems quite telling in terms of smoothness (or lack there of) going for it.  Any opinions would be appreciated.

Melville Beach, WA, AU

Ballistic day, a cold front came through. First run felt horrible but then come in and dialed the gear.

5.8m stealth, 115lt isonic, 34 talon.

Ricky, Good to see you getting out -how'd that 34 fin feel in the 115iS tooUndecided.  Haven't replaced the iS but got the FF for the rougher stuff in windier conditions - my thought was a 60cm wide board would somewhat ameliorate the difficulty a 64cm board exhibits when it gets really rough but am still to feel as comfortable on it as on the iSonic.  There are a lot of positives with the Falcon and I'll persevere although I have more confidence pushing the iSonic harder.

Maybe it'll end in a case of "it's not you but me"  break-up Wink

I feel the same way about my 59W 90lt F2 SX. Hard to control, like today I was on the 115lt isonic with a 5.8m and felt great. 34cm felt great, no spin outs and no sore ankles. Had a small sail up but no worries. I need to be powered up to use the 34cm in that board. Need a 38 or 36 for underpowered conditions.

Yep cut outs are great. My all time best board was a 2007 SX XL 135L 80cm wide rocket ship. It had really deep cut out. IMO when your really powered up sailing fast you are just riding on the narrow bit between the cut outs so you dont have a big wide tail forcing you to round up. Secondly the deep cut outs let the tail sink in a bit deeper so the nose rides higher skimming over chop instead if plowing into it. MY PB for the old SX XL was 37knts. I have not got close on my big boards i have now as they all have tiny 10mm deep cutouts. Thats my 2cents anyway

Thanks Bender.  I reckon even shallow cutouts help in the really rough stuff although I haven't had a board with deep ones so I can't compare.

Luca,  you're probably right that it's me Wink
