Early session at Dutchies joined by Jonah and JJ.

Great fun zipping around on the inside and playing on the little lumps in 15-20

Got the 105 quad working nicely with the mast base further back.

What a loss dayFrown drove to Coodanup, rigged the 6.4, with an eye on that mongrel cloud bank moving in. Hit the water, one half hearted planning run, then slogged for the next half hour. Came in, with thought of sail increase. Got cornered by some ol codger, looking for a yarnEmbarassedLaughing so after listening to his slant on the condition of the Estuary, no crabs, government pandering, high rise at Dawesville, when I got my chance,I cut an ran to take a look at Hardies, and Lipton's. No go there either, breeze even worseCry Headed for Safety Bay, that was packed with drop kick tea baggers all over the shop. Some of those clowns have no f....idea Yell  Not one part of the pond that there were not trying to boost in. Well maybe one, and that was the jetty area.Frown

In the end, after seeing two guys rip fins out on the dredge pipeMoney mouth, and changing up a board size in an attempt to at least have a cruise sail, I gave in and came home.

Pelican Point, WA, AU

Really fun sail at Peli Point. Not much wind when I arrived at 2pm but it built beautifully. It was my first time out using the 5.9m Code Red which was perfect for the wind on the 86L isonic, much more manageable then the 6.7m. No big speeds today as I was just doing short runs with lots of gybes. The thread in my fin has been wearing down lately and as i derigged I discovered my back fin screw had come off completely! Lucky my fin remained on. Hopefully I can fix it with longer screws. But I'm in the market for a new fin anyway so no dramas. Any tips on finding the right fin? I'm using a 5.9m Code Red with an 2009 isonic 86L and I'm about 63kgs. Hope to get out on the water tomorrow afternoon aswell.

Melville Beach, WA, Patrik 115, Turbo 7.5m, CL 38/34

Nice arvo, would have liked to have stayed on the water longer 'cause it flattened out nicely at the end. Fins felt sweet and good to know that the 34 works fine in the 115, really nice off the wind.

Xfire 98 with Koncept 6.6 and 34 weedy

Only second time I have used this 2012 6.6 Koncept, which has a foot so low it drags in the water and comes up against the back footstrap when on hard. Less of a problem when I moved the mast track right back because it then touched the footstrap futher away from the bottom batten, where the foot was a bit softer.

Has any one else had this problem?

Will try a longer than recommended mast extension next time.

Otherwise it seems a good sail.

Peel Inlet (Liptons), WA, AU

Took a drive down to Mandurah to explore the area and finished off the day with a sail at Liptons. Had a few good drags with Glen; and it was nice to catch up with a few more of the Coastal Speed Team; and meet Rob from the Southwest Chapter.

Chris Lockwood fins are really good, pointers and weedies, but $350+

I got four PBs after using buying one of his fins.

He will advise you the best fin size for your gear.

Congrats on the PB's Sam. Nice gybing.

Sorry to hear your woes Mineral. Sounds like Safety Bay is out until the pipe is removed. Can't believe they've taken up virtually the whole season to do their dredging. Adam says it looks like the dredge is packing up, so hopefully the pipe will be gone soon. Whereabouts are people running into it?

Patrick, Glad you are feeling well enough for a sail today. I hope your health continues to improve.

Sam and Alistair - fins are very purpose built, like sails. What are you after in a fin? Pointer, weedy, speed, freeride, slalom? g10? carbon?

Thanks Ricey I'll look into some of Chris's fins. I've heard there pretty quick. Hope theres some second hand ones around. $350 is a bit more than I'd like to pay. I guess a slalom style fin would be best suited to our sailing. G10 probably I assume its cheaper. I think I'll head to the windsurfing shop sometime this week and see what I can find.

Yes, if you want the best you can't go past a Lockwood fin, but they are pricey. I have heard some top sailors say they are the best fins they have ever used.

Chris Lockwood has only recently started marketing his fins, so you are unlikely to find one second hand, unless someone who has one of his original models (which are as rare as hens teeth because people who have one don't want to sell) decides to upgrade.

G10 have more flex and twist off when overpowered like a sail, so they can be good for control. They can also be sanded easily if you hit a rock or hit the bottom.

Yeah the G10 sounds like the way to go. I've already sanded mine down a bit after a few scrapes. And as I'm quite light the control sounds good.

Fins are a very tricky business lads! Try as many as you can. Some are good at providing lift, some give more control. Chris' fins and others like them provide a good compromise between lift and control but you pay a premium! If you need something a little more budget oriented - I have some Tectonics Goldwing fins that are a good alround fin that work well in the small iSonics, you are welcome to have a try and see what you think. The other option, for a little more control would be a Techtonics Falcon. Goldwing and Falcon fins are regularly available 2nd hand for reasonable prices.

Dredge pipe is still located from the pump station on-shore and the dredge. But what is a nasty surprise, the bloody line between both is not direct. Its got a bloody big woof in the guts, so looking for it catches some out. One, they think they have gone over it and stop lookingCry Two the think it must be lower than advised and think they have missed it, and whack, it gets them every time. CryMoney mouth

In the end what windsurfers who were there while I was, gybed well short of the dredge location... just to be sure. That pushed us back into the area of this bloody drop kick tea baggers who have taken up squatters rights on the complete pond. Yell  If they were not boosting all over the shop getting in the way, the bloody idiots thought that about half way along the pond, its a good idea to drop the kite.  Right in the run. Frown

No wonder windsurfers get pissed with this lot. Most arrogant f... you jack I am all right sporting fraternity I have ever come across.   I wasnt haveing a good session so these pricks got me, and few other windsurfers pissed right ooorffff. Only thing we didnt do was challange a few, cos we was outnumbered 200 to 1.Tongue out  lowered the odds a tad for us to say, 100 to 1 and we woulda had a crackLaughingWink

Well done on the PBs, Sam.

As Patrick said try as many as you can. His 32 Goldwing would be a good one to try ( it is my favourite fin and has done 40 knots) I use it with a 6.3.

I also have a 29 ish G11 pointer which would give a bit less lift

Sounds like I did the right thing giving the pond a miss today Mineral

with where the dredge is at the moment I have called it a complete no go zone. Kites have not been bad my last few sessions inside must just be the weekend crowd of blow ins from othe parts that cause the problems,

Mineral, before you come down here next time text me and I will let you know if it's worthwhile :-) Windxtasy has my number or pm me on Seabreeze and I will be able to give a more accurate heads up... just don't try calling, the reception at home is rhubarb but texts seem to usually get through ok.
