Sandy Point, Vic, AU

First speed sail since the first weekend in Nov so I was RUSTY and SLOW, never really had the right gear at the right time.  Fun though.  Joined by Daffy, Spotti and Matt from WA, great to meet you.

Good fun day! Until I had to stop because the arthritis in my right big toe joint was killing me with all the walking back! Cry

Wind 25-30kt WSW to SW. Swinging around a bit but not hard to pick out some good runs when the angle was OK.

I got to the inlet at about 9AM thinking I should have been earlier as the wind had started to pick up. I found that I could not have got in earlier anyhow with the tide just starting to drop. By the time I rigged Mat Langer arrived, closely followed by Spotty and Martin.

Rigged 2014 5.4m Koncept with CA40 and Tribal/Lockwood 18cm to try it out. It was great! Smile

Went with about 6KG in my vest but the first run was only just over 40 knots. I walked back slowly waiting for the tide to drop a bit and by the time I did the next the wind was a bit more solid and a saw a 44.32 kts peak! Nice, but only 42.25 10 sec. Got two more 43-peak/42-10's and the wind seemed to die. Wenr back for the slalom board and took 3kg of weight out. Bad move! as soon as I hit the run the wind was back up again so I went straight back for the CA40 and managed another couple of good runs for the 42 average.

By then my toe was killing me so I retired hurt.

Tribal/Lockwood 18cm felt really solid and safe and accelerated great in the puffs when off the wind. It's a keeper, along with the 16.5cm!

5.5 Race, probably only right for the first 2 runs then underdone.  Way too slack to rig bigger so just changed up a board size but later Spotti rigged a proto7.1 Race and I pinched his 6.3, but wind was soft by then.

Great speeds Daffy, hey we never got your story about what you leant from Luderitz and how it applies to sailing Sandy Point, or speedsailing in general??
