Pelican Point, WA, Patrik 155, Turbo 7.5

Nice little blat down at Peli. I managed to jag the best wind of the day. I think Danijel and Ricey may have arrived too late.

My fist ever sail using a delta fin today, thanks for the loan Fangman I wouldn't have been able to sail otherwise.

It was so shallow I was still touching the bottom weed even with a 24cm that had been 'customised' down to 19cmWink

Coodanup, WA, AU 5.7K, 85S, 17 delta slalom

My first use of the delta weedy today. What an awesome session! Those of you who weren't there really missed out. It didn't look like there was much wind but that smooth water made the most of what there was. I was slicing back and forth through thick weed with impugnity and loving it.

Looks like the alpha practice has paid off, although in the stronger wind and chop I could feel my old bad habits coming back. I know I can do better.

Top 4 results for alpha, nm, hr & distance, so it was definitely a TOP 4 Fangy DAY!

Coodanup, WA

Epic afternoon on super flat water with Anita, Allan, Fangy and Mike - like sailing across a lawn at times.

Don't think we had more than 18 knots - stoked that it's seems possible to sail at double the wind speed.

It took a while to get used to the delta fin, it was certainly necessary today, the water was super shallow and weedy for the first 300m or so.

Couldn't get a decent NM - either the w ind was too holey or the runs were too short - great fun trying though.

Yes great fun out there this arvo, most of the time PBs are an indication of how good the session is and 4 between you isn't bad going!

But a warning, smooth water is addictive! I just can't get enough of it now, that shhhhhhhhhh sound is something special., Drrrrrrrrrrrr isn't bad over finger size liquid ball bearings, and maybe a tad faster, but shhhhh wins hands down for me.

You would have loved it, Lunny, and we could have used your distance skills too!

Alan, congratulations on three PB's. It certainly was a top session. You looked like you were firing. Surprised you didn't go further, since you started well before we did.

Not a bad outing for such a day. Didnt go as it looked ugly on live forecas. Bugger, as it sounds like it was a top afternoon.

Well done on the PB's guys. Anita, its paying off, all those prectice sessions Cool

Mineral, The weather wasn't too bad. Warm at first, overcast but only a couple of showers which were so light you hardly noticed them. The consistent rain only really started as we were packing up. Then it was only light.

Yes the practice is paying off, but those old bad habits are hard to shrug off when it gets windy and choppy. More practice in more wind required. The more wind has been hard to get lately!

Yesterday you were either gybing in the weed (slows you down too much), in the shallows (flat but bottom out when halfway through the gybe), or out where it was windy and choppy.

Hi Anita,

I was quite surprised that I only did 58 Km too.

I am wondering if any of the sailing I did after I came in for a break was actually recorded. It starange that all the numbers on the display from the first session went to zero arround the same time.

Overall I sailed for just over 3 hours with hardly any stops, and even if you worked on an average speed of 15kts (the same as my 1 hour) that should have given a distance of arround 80Km

With the other issues I've had, I think I might bite the bullet and get a new GPS.

If I sail with both it will be interesting to compare the results

Alan, I reckon something is fishy there too. Every time I saw you you were bashing out nauti's and given the amount of time you were on water I think your estimate is right.😕

Alan yes I think that GPS is still dodgy. If you are going to get a replacement do it quickly. They are becoming hard to get.

Maybe the first session was all lost? Just think how good those PB's might have been if all the data had all been recorded. You definitely looked like you were on a distance mission.

Alan, download the data logger file to the card. If its there, this will have it. If you do, let me know and email to me. I can drag out the data for you.

Hi Mineral,

When I downloaded the data to the card, there were 2 files for Saturday, the first one was from when I first turned on the GPS this is the one I up loaded on here. The other file had a later time (I think it was around 3pm from memory) and was empty.

Alan,

Did you actually download the data to the card from the datalogger?, because you don't usually need to do that, the data is usually already on the card. BTW I often get two SBN files from each session, one is always 0, and the other one has the data. The file with 0 Kb is usually the earlier one.

Hi Anita,

I manually saved the data loger to the card and then used a card reader in my PC, if that's what you mean?

I always save the data logger to the memory card, my GPS doesn't  do it automatically when I turn the GPS off for some reason.

Windxtasy

WA
Australia

Yes that is what I mean, because we don't normally need to do that.

Drat. I think the second half of your session was not recorded. Either pause was pressed accidentally or the unit is faulty. If it doesn't automatically save I would say it IS faulty.

This is why a lot of people sail with two GPS units. It is disappointing to put in a huge effort only to not have it record for some reason.
