3464 days ago Another joyous day of weedy goodness, with Fangy, Wazz and Finn.
Wind played tricks on us though dropping off shortly after we hit the water., luckily I'd gone with the 6.6m instead of rigging the 5.8 in anticipation of a wind increase.
I had another test run on the ground effect thingo, the rear straps right at the back helped a bit with trim, but it still sits too flat, and it's a bit hard to rig steer downwind to get a decent bare off. I'mm going to have to reduce planning area behind the fins and try and figure a way to adjust toe in. I'm fairly sure a small amount of toe in wont affect speed too much, but should allow foot steering.
Spent 1/2 hr with that, then changed to the 53cm with Keef's delta

Champing at the bite in the morning, waiting for the wind. Waiting, waiting, waiting.
I looked out of the window overlooking Mandurah Bay....white caps...yikes. Rang Capt'n Decrepit....." only blowing 10 knots here in Falcon" says he. Messaged Fangman......"nothing here yet" says the man who lives on the foreshore....but...5 mins later message back from Fangy.." starting to blow...get here now!" I used to pay more attention to that sort of message when I was a teenager but I am now far older and possibly wiser. Fangy was at Nairns with his anemometer out ( I had thought that the magistrate was VERY clear that this sort of thing was not to happen again, especially in a public place) and pronounced, Thunderbirds-like, it was a "go". I rigged a 6.4 NP Excess and a weedy, walked across the 50km beach to the waters edge but, after just one reach, it was apparent that the weedy was not going to be a starter in such shallow water...how had I not noticed?. So, after a brief run into the weed and sand across the shallows I returned to the pits for a fast fin change... my Delta 22 ( Decrepit was already in to change everything, I think, except his booties) Previous excursions on this Delta have seen me spin out faster than after 3 beers but it must be that some of the planets, weed banks and several navigational markers aligned. For once I was sailing reasonably well ; no spinning out, no stalling and at a reasonable pace...even across the broccoli patch at the eastern end. I was able to take the back hand off...no crash! What the...? That's all thanks to the experienced Mob Training Team who have been desperately trying to get me sailing better before I kill myself. Or them. Of course, there's no fool like an old fool and I found myself on the wrong side of the weed in about a toenails depth of water, thinking of being stung by cobblers or eaten by crabs..
I was quite happy running and across the weed until a few more body parts gave off red warning lights and annoying buzzers so I returned to the 50km beach and decided that this sailing is very, very good fun. Especially in the company of Decrepit, Fangy and Fin....how can I not get better with quality trainers like them? Thanks, good people.
Coupla beers and big zzzz's for me.

3463 days ago I started the day at sparrows answering texts from Wazza who had had too many jelly beans for breakfast again. We let him bounce off the walls for a good few hours before finally he wore us down and we agreed he could come outside and play.
So we ended up with a Wazzaveryexcitableboy, Cap'n Calm and Fin at Weedygoodness central. Unsurprisingly Wazza was first to rig up and after we had checked he had his harness on the right way up and his GPS sorted we let him go. I was a bit concerned that level of enthusiasm was going to end up with him completely dispatching another body part to the scrap heap. But after hitting the water like a over excited Labrador he was away and had a great day coming to terms with a delta in the weed.
Pre rigging entertainment was a bit light on today. Capn Calm didnt throw his lunch to the seagulls, Gutso wasnt there to give fin insertion instruction and Fin managed to not get hypothermia with the air temperature in the low twenties.
Cap'n Calm broke out the GET and once again seemed to plane and track happily but still very flat. It was consigned to the back of the Commode in short order, but not before the Cap’n Calm had done his thing with the wind and left me under done everything. F2waterlog, Koncept 7.5 Delta18 speed. In the distance I could see the Muppetman knocking a good hour across the estuary with a far more sensible sized rig. I remained the optimist for an hour but eventually when Fin went past me for the millionth time whilst I was grovelling and then Wazza cut me to shreds going uphill I spat the dummy and went in to load up the QEII.
I was still horribly underpowered but the Delta24Slalom worked a treat on the QEII and I was able to plane most of the time. Unfortunately I got a tad over aggressive in trying to get the big girl to power slide and I slipped on the deck and went down like a sack of spuds with my medial cruciate making a nasty noise in the process. I have done my best to ignore it for the last 12 hours but the swelling and bruising and generally discomfort is making that just a challenge. I am sitting here with a stabilising knee brace strapped on and fervently hoping the whole thing sorts itself out quickly.
Highlight of the day was Wazza still channelling his inner 5 year old and bursting with groove in the smooth good vibes and getting a great session on his Delta. That in itself was enough to make it a Top Ten Fangy Day :-)
As is always the way, as soon as I had closed off the orders for another round of Deltas someone pops up asking for one. So once again, if you want one, pm (fangman) me on Seabreeze and if I get enough interest to make it worthwhile offsetting the freight costs I will do another order. Allow six weeks.
Fangy's with a gentle breeze.
