Got a Delta fin from Mick Kay, and then got help from Mick and Mike and a couple others to get it to fit my board. Thanks Guys!!

i97, Delta 19, RS MkiV 7.0

Finally got on the water around 5pm after the traffic going up ang getting the fin sorted and rigged, Everyone else was coming in!! Thought it was going to a waste of time, but there was enough wind to keep me planing most of the time, and even got a few gusts around 20 knots. I had a good time, and it topped the 2 hour trip to get up there.

The fin feels very different. Very little vertical lift, so the board loses all its liveliness and feels stuck to the water. Once you get going though, it is quick. Just a bit challenging in gybes as you have to be committed to the rail, and also will spin out easily in the chip, but fairly easy to recover, and I could also recover from spinout mid gybe most of the time by just committing more to the rail.

It is seriously easy to go quick on flat water there. the board makes a different sound (and musch less). popping out 32 knots in a mildly powered bear off in a gust that lasted about 5-10 seconds. I am sure I could add at least 5 knots to that in some good wind there. It really changes teh rules of going fast.

Thanks again to the local guys for all the help!

Cheers,

Adrian

Overpowered and too choppy in the first half of the day, then the gusts and chop dropped a little and it was fun to ride up and down the long swell. Love this fin I just got, makes the board feel on rails

Adrian with that fin you can move the mast track further back. Did you get a 21?  It's a great feeling to go faaaast in such smooth water, waiting for the right day to go up again.

Glad it was worth the trip Adrian.. It was pretty average for up there yesterday although at least there was some flat water for once!

We just needed more wind in the flats. Not the best wind angle. It certainly makes PB"s easy if you can line the planets up!

grr you get that speed on a average day not powered up and it's almost my Pb 2 sec..UndecidedWink

I actually ran the base a bit forward to ease off the pressure on the fin. It seemed to work ok. I got the delta 19 on recommendation from mick. It was ok. I could get upwind ok once planing. A few spunouts from just pushing too hard against it. Definitely not as nice to use as a good pointer fin. Feels like the board wallows around and suck to the water until you are reasonably well powered. Not unlike a weed fin I guess.
