sboardcrazy (24363km): Lake George SA - 20-28kts S 79ltre falcon- 5m OD + 25 cm lessencher weedie then Isonic 50ltre speed board. Well what a day PB's everywhere! Many joined the 40kt club and excited screeches echoed around the lake.. I had a bit of a meltdown beforehand as thought the 5 + 79 would be too much and get splattered but Daffy insisted I give it a go. 5m was ok early on but 79 skidded sideways reaching across the chop to the start of the bearaway and too bouncy in the run..Came in and got the isonic. Never ridden a speed board before or anything that small ( only my 68ltre waveboard 3x).. Great! Screamed upwind and chewed up the chop and spat it out..much less scary! held the 5m to scary wind strengths. Probably should have come and chnaged to the 4.6m but believed the more sail the faster I'd go ..A myth blown away by Chris's great results! So next time I'll change down.. Got 2 planing gybes at the bottom of the run.Tried one overpowered gybe in the chop and splattered so just stopped and turned the board at the top of each tack. I didnt want to lose ground gybing anyway as I was coming in 2/3rds of the way down the run.grr Decided to do an extra tack and get the full run..Got my 2 sec up the top of the run. I'd been bemoaning the fact that I never seemed to get a gust in the run and then this monster came through.. Couldn't see properly as the salt had dried on my glasses and I remember thinking fa...k can't complain of not enough wind.. Pushed my luck a bit continuing right down at the end as you get some lovely smooth water but it couldn also get really shallow too Luckily I survived and it's only thick mud anyway.. few yeehaas and enjoyed looking behind to watch my wake - yes I know couldn't have been that powered up then... d It was more critical to get the weed and mud off the fin when starting on the speed board than the FF. By now it was getting pretty hary with the 5m and I pushed myself more than normal holding it but came in as tiring and could see nasty splatters ahead if i continued..Wish I'd gone back out and had some more runs now..Oh well hope we get some more strong wind as Im pumped for it now! Need to work on my hour/ nm + distance so hope we get a nice 15-20kts soon.. I've learnt to shut the orifices and much nicer now! I think most of the time I'm overwpowered its due to too big a board.. I can see why you guys like little boards and never seem to think the chop is as big as I do..
