Falcon 79, NP5.5 Evo 111, then NP RS5.0 and Craig Cole 17in weedie

Improved precommunications across the team ahead of the day led to a good turn out of gust busters at Lake W, including Tony on the sidelines with leg in brace after learning kitesurfing last week

When I arrived Keith was just rolling out his 3rd sail, and kindly  took a break from sail rigging to fit my board with the brand new Craig Cole weedie, complete with Fanatic branding to go with my board. First few runs I was unable to cope with the 5.5, so came in and changed to the 5.0, much better prob underpowered but meant I could focus on getting to grips with the small fin. Heaps of fun, had a few good runs and got some good coaching from Craig, who moved the harness lines back on my boom to force me to go downwind - it worked and I felt comfortable. Had some more good runs and then saw some of the team heading back to base camp, decided to follow and go in as was feeling a bit tired.

Craig came in too and was heating up the clubhouse and had the coffee pot warm when Keith sent him back out on his speed board. So watched for a while, not sure if the wind died or what but Craig was upwind for ages then did a screaming run across the bay. I think this was to get a better speed than Keiths 35. Last I looked he headed back up wind to where he was, not sure if he needed a rescue or was waiting for people to leave. So I left. Hope you got back in ok Craig and got some good speeds.

Thank you Craig for the new small fin, looking forward to taking it for a spin at Primbee, and thank you Keith for finishing it off and fitting to the falcon.

Interesting afternoon's sail.....I finally got to rig my SAILWORKS HUCKER 4.2, i've only had it for 3 months.......We had 25-30 knots of breeze, gusting to just sub 40's at times with a nice flat inside section behind the reef and a pretty good swell out wider. The first couple of runs were a bit suck it and see, and I came in and adjusted the harness lines and mast foot to get the sail a bit less twitchy ( moved the lines forward 3 inches) and the mast foot forward for a bit more board control. Worked a treat.

So I headed back out, lined up a couple of swells and took off the back of them, feeling great; came back in on a huge swell (IMHO), ran with it for what seemed ages, gybed and headed back out. Still feeling great, so lined up a beauty of a swell, sheeted in and took off. This wave had no back on it, the wind grabbed me and things got very messy. The comeuppance was a badly stretched left hammy, busted boom and a long body drag back to the beach.....

SO.... thanks to Shane for making sure I got back in and dragging my gear out of the shore dump, Ian and Nick for carrying and de-rigging my gear and the good samaritan A&E Doctor and her medical student Son for patching me up. Also her Grand- daughter for being so patient. People are good.

I'm out for at least three weeks, BUT, I'll put a review of the Hucker on Seabreeze tomorrow (I can't do anything else), just to please Mark_australia! It is a good sail, the sailor was far too ambitious!!
