Wind W-SW 15-35 Chop big to nasty

Groundhog day, wind and water conditions same as yesterday, maybe a bit choppier. 36.44 on the dial so gear pretty much tuned in and working nicely. Enjoying being fit after a winter of running every day, has definitely made a difference as my speeds are higher than at the same time last year with the same gear. This is going to be a great season!

36 knots in nasty chop is impressive.

Thanks Barton and Anita. My board is 8 years old, the sail has 4 seasons on it and I'm getting long in the tooth. The key has been winter training and building up leg strength, can't wait to get on the water each day!

Just wondering why you used the Naish board rather than your Mistrals? Does it have some advantage in those conditions?

The Mistral 41 speed board can't handle the chop, there's no flat water and the Mistral 55 is too big. The Naish SP80 is perfect for the Gorge chop and jibes so easily in the nasty stuff. At the moment the current is pretty strong with the snow melt so the wind against current sets up nasty cross chop combined with a ground swell, gets pretty confusing out there. Barton knows what I'm talking about.

This is Thursday a bit further downriver and was pretty flat compared with the last few days. We get more swell where I sail as the river is narrower.

I find my M41 is great in chop and swell, but it needs fairly consistent wind. Not much good in 15 knots.

Sounds like your chop would have been particularly sharp too.

No shortage of wind here Anita but the chop is brutal. I think a speed board would be slower in these conditions. It's also pretty gusty.

I'm curious to find out what my JP Freestyle Wave 77 liter board does in these conditions now that my confidence/skill level has increased...
