4 categories

Kanaha, Maui.

RRD 98, S2 7.0 and S2 6.3, Vector volt 34. Rental gear and limitted time but managed to trim it, somewhat. Kanaha chop was challenging but it can be sailed fast. Maybe next time I'll bring my gear....

Nice speeds for Kanaha, Boro! Which RRD - XFire? S2 Venom? Where did you rent?

Thanks Peter. Yes, RRD Xfire V8 and S2 Venom. Rented form Kevin at Second Wind. This is his personal gear, so not sure if he would rent it to the general public. I only had my own harness and fin with me.

I am not very familiar with Kanaha, have yet to find those flat spots in-between waves, but they are there somewhere, I am sure. It would be nice to spend a few weeks there. It is definitely cool place for windsurfing.

I was wondering about renting slalom gear. Never saw anything faster than SuperSports and freerace sails. Have you seen Tom Hammerton's tracks from Kanaha? He's done some decent speed there, but 40 knots are (almost?) impossible. Might work best when you have a good swell and breaking waves. In the summer, it tends to be rather choppy. Sprecks/Camp One may be better then.

Based on these tracks and what I could see there, wind was more from NE than usual and tracks are way down wind from where everyone sails at Kanaha Beach. It looks like he was able to get 500 meters or more on these runs. 37.5 knots max. speed?

I'll check that out next time....
