Kyeemagh, NSW, AU || 15-22kt NE and building || 94 Isonic 6.0 Simmer Style 34cm FO Nitro

Could have done with the 7.0 but rigged smaller as I got there early and it was building quickly. Didn't really get nukin' during my sailing window (11am to 2pm) but still got planing on the chosen combo for the majority of the time. First time on the FO Nitro 34 and it did the job really well despite a little difficulty keeping up wind in the lulls.

Nigel, John, Craig, George only just getting into the swing of things as I packed up. Looking forward to the posts that will appear below!

Early start on the water today with John, Rick and Andrew. Ended up being really busy for a Wednesday. Good fun out there. Never out of control, but pretty well powered up most of the time. The water was super flat until the tide changed and then it got pretty rough in patches. Good to see the rest of the team show up a bit later. Good times :)

Patrick 92 OD 6.2m BP 24.  Didn't quite get in the groove,  but had a great time sailing with everyone down at Sanctuary Point.  Nigel showed me the ropes with the speed strip and had a chat with all the locals.  Pretty windy, having a fully powered run on my 5.0m wave sail and small wave board at the endof the day.  Sanctuary Point, NSW, AU

Nigel I just had a look at your top five distances. At this rate you'll have a nice sized km total by the end of the year.

Artur, solid numbers all round!

Congrats on the distance PB Deiter.

Looks like another steady NEr today, hope to see lots of the team out again!

I slept very well last night. Fell asleep on the couch at about 8:30 :P

I wore a HR monitor yesterday as I was curious to know what a big session like this would look like. In total I burned 1700 kcals over 4 and a bit hours. My max HR was 170bpm and the average was 130bpm. I had my watch set to display my HR so I checked it quite regularly. It was interesting to see that after waterstarting my HR would rise to around 160-170bpm depending on how much water treading I had to do to clear the sail.

To put the calorie burn and HR range in perspective, I have a resting HR of around 35 bpm and a max HR of 205 bpm, weigh 82kg, VO2max of 48, and am 43 y/o. So about 6 calories a minute, which is actually quite a lot higher than I thought it would be for windsurfing. When running in soft sand and dune training I'm burning around 10 calories a minute with an average HR around 160. Hard cycling is a bit less than running at around 8 cals per minute.

These numbers would go up for someone who's older, heavier or less fit. Very interesting numbers... you don't get that from a GW60 :P

Excellent Nigel. I am feeling a whole lot better about my dedicated wine and cheese carbo loading pre training. Given I am older and heavier and less fit, I reckon I should smash a pile of ice cream as well. 😄

Outstanding numbers DDs!

Great information re: heart rate too. I always wondered if we were actually using much energy whilst out there. Now I know why I aced my annual fitness test this year!!
