Picture this, a beautiful beach with a nice 15-18 knot NE wind with a HSM 7.3 sail and a JP 108 board with a 42cm pointer fin. Nice for the 1st 15 minutes then it turned ugly.
Unfortunately I went too far past the sand spit and ended up in the lee of the Yaccaba Headland in an outgoing tide with stand-up waves coming back in through the heads.
Fell in trying to gybe about 500m from the headland and couldn't buy a water start so tried to uphaul but the waves coming in were about 2m tall it was almost impossible to get going again. So I was getting sucked out by the tide and then being pushed back in by the waves so I remained relatively in the same spot.
Tried for about 20 minutes but no luck at all meanwhile the "dah-dah" music was getting louder. Finally a Cruise Catamaran came past and offered a rescue so I said "Yes please" as I was getting tired.
Took me into as shallow as possible and let me go but by then I had a torn panel and a broken batten so had to swim it in, another 25-30 minutes later I finally got in to shore.
Unrigged and walked it all back to where I started 3 hours earlier and was well and truly rooted. Ah don't you love a good sail...not.
