As with most forecasts we get in Suffolk I wasn't holding my breath that the wind would arrive. if the wind was strong enough I was going to Point Clear but on checking the Landguard weather station, the wind was slighty west of SW and fairly light only gusting to 14 knots or so. Knocked the 40 mile drive on the head and went to Levington instead with a good high tide. Parked at the right of the marina and they were dredging the entrance with lots of pipes and a big crane so parking as at a premuim. Managed to find a spot and with winds gusting to 18mph I rigged the 8.5 with the longboard. When coming back to my rig from putting my wetsuit on the top section of my mast had broken, it's lucky that didn't happen while sailing! Good news for a change is I have a spare top so quicky rigged again and set off. It was a beat to Felixstowe docks with the winds being fairly light, as I sailed past the container ships and turned from the River Orwell into the Stour the wind increased and it chopped up. It was at this point I nearly turned around but battled on beating past Shotley, Harwich and Parkstone in a choppy river. It was a good beat up the beautiful Stour with loads of birds about with the board nicely railed up.With no windsurfers sailing from Harkstead or Bradfield I turned right in front of the Royal Hospital school at Holbrook and was hoping the reach back was going to be fast. It was in places but there were large patches of lighter winds with it picking up again were the river meet where I was flying in the chop. Luckily there were no big ships to worry about so aimed up the Orwell. There was a dredger working in front of the last berth at Felixstowe dock and a small tanker heading out to sea. I landed and let the ship past then sailed back to Levington being out three hours covering over 20 miles, a little milder than of late and maybe some more windsurfing tomorrow.
