Stephen Squirrell (34966km): Thursday 17th August – windsurf *** sunny periods F2 Xantos 295 with Tushingham Lightning 7.8 and 6.5. 25.69 kt. max., 24.03 kt ave., 9.23 kt hour, 20.58 kt mile, 42.3 km, 16.10 kt. alpha. This is hopefully the first of a few breezy days but we woke to a cloudy wet day so was not in any hurry to get down. With the sun just starting to come through and with plans to go to The Fludgers tomorrow I thought I would give The Manor a try. Got my favourite parking spot but sail choice wasn’t easy with the wind cross off but I took a chance with 7.8 on my 133lt. The nice thing about this end is the large quiet bays and no lobster pots:) The whole session the wind was very up and down and I was way under to start, I was getting a few gusts sailing out to the shipping channel but nothing fast in the lumpy sea:( I had 50 minutes with speeds of only 22 kts so came ashore for a snack, then with the wind increasing I gave it another try and increased the max to 24 kts. after a couple of mile runs the sail was becoming a bit of a handful so came ashore and changed to the 6.5 and had some good runs improving my max to 25 kts :) Sadly it was short lived and it dropped again so called it a day. There was a large platform being towed to the docks by three tugs which was interesting and several sailors now out at The Fludgers I drove there for a chat and conditions were far from ideal there too with a choppy sea and variable. Nice to catch up with several mates will take my van down early tomorrow to get a parking space, The Fludgers is not my favourite venue but not many options.
