Melville Beach, WA, AU

gawd I need a new set of arms after that.

M95 sw25 6.3M then 5.5m (!) KAR.

Proper washing machine today. Got there and was stacked on the 6.3m. Thinking the wind was going to ease off and hopefully flatten the water a bit. I found a few seconds of lined up swell out the back for 40 on the dial but immediately afterwards the wind lost its dash of north and suddenly no more tunnels of joy. And to make it more entertaining... it booted in hard. Barely hanging on. Made all my gybes at that point but got nailed by a gust and slammed on the straight. Sailed back to the carpark in poo stance mode- hitting 36kts by accident not sheeted in, and trying hard not to become an untethered kite. Back at the beach, waited a bit for a miracle (like a handy sandbar appearing out of a vortex)- thinking it would ease off after the rain... but no. It booted even harder. So I rigged the 5.5m. And it booted harder again. Now the wind was averaging 30 gusting to 40, not making its mind up where it was coming from- creating hell's washing machine. I did a couple of runs only. After some serious procrastination and watching some serious slamming action of the brave having a go, it looked like things had settled down a bit, and I was getting emergency work calls so really it was last run. Matty also went out for his "last run". And then it booted again... fark. Didn't want to swim. So headed over to slam town (Nedlands yacht club) to find a lull to gybe in. On the way over did one terrifying downwinder completely overpowered through the biggest swell I've seen on the river and only peaked at 37. Made the gybe in slam town and headed back. Arms were so cooked by half way back thought I was going to be swimming the rest but by some miracle held on... then back to the joys of the office...

I'm sure there were places not so far away that would have been epic for speed sailing today, but sadly I didnt see this one coming and committed to work with a long "lunch" at melville.

Nice write up Chris. Ok so if you describe it as windy and rough, I reckon it was twice thatSurprised Good on you for smashing it!
