Melville Beach, WA, AU

Nice little session at Melville, wind came in for a couple of hours but died fairly quickly. Good to see a few Pinnas out enjoying the nice conditions.

25-30 knots with quite a bit of swell. Felt powered up on the 4.1m going cross wind and downwind but crashed going into most of the gybes so got a bit of water start practise today. Laughing Probably would have been better on the 3.5. JJ was on a 4m!

Melville Beach, WA, AU

Nice unexpected sail after an early knock off. Didnt manage to get many belter gusts but the first run was a pretty exciting across the other side.

Great to catch up with some familiar faces.

Water is so warm now, summer is soo close now.

After work beaver raid. Wind backing off as I hit the water, in typical fashion, d'oh!!! Still good for a few fastish runs, just never got the board really flying. Still a blast Cool

Melville Beach, WA, AU same gear as yesterday 54 Manta, 4.9 Koncept, BP kestral fin.

I got held up at work today but the Melville graph was still reading 22 - 24 knots when I got home, so I abandoned my usual "rest day" approach and told my body it would have to wait another day to rest. The wind was still really strong when I arrived at Melville so I rigged the same gear as yesterday with the goal of working on gybing the Manta. It was good to catch up with lots of buddies on the beach and finally catch up with the elusive Pacey, the enigma of the Pinnaroos team. It was lucky that Pacey was parked right next to me and overheard my name in conversation. Pacey, it was great to meet you at last and I can see we have a lot to learn from you.

By the time I got on the water the wind had dropped right off, which might be a good thing because I found it very difficult to get my feet out of the straps fast enough to gybe or even tack. I tried sailing without booties but of course the straps were then too big. The straps (with booties) feel like they are the right size but they seem to grip my foot too much. They are really comfy for sailing but hard to come out of. I have had a number of helpful suggestions from the experts on the beach and I will have to try them one by one until I find the solution. I may need to surgically modify the pads so they are less grippy.

Not a top 10 Melville day for me sailing wise but it was lovely to see Lunny again, and Kenny and Ben and Geoff and Boz and Chris and Chris and Steve, and to meet Pacey. Thanks for all the footstrap advice, guys. Pacey I hope you will post some scores soon. Do not feel you need top scores to post. Start modestly, then you can enjoy all the PBs along the way.

Melville Beach, WA, AU

Unfortunately the wind was petering out by the time I got down to the river but none the less it was great to get out on the water for a quick blast followed up with dinner and a beer in the back of the van while watching the sun go down.

Also great to see a few more pinnas there backing up yetserdays sessions.

Jake, you and Boz may have sailed miles apart but your numbers are very similar again...

Anita,

Atan boots are very good because they feel like bare feet but still offer some protection. They are much easier to get out of the straps because they are quite smooth at the side. You have to order them online. I can show you mine next time I see you.

They do look good. Pricey though. What is annoying is that I bought a new pair of booties just last week - my old ones had holes in them - I bought the same brand (xcel) that had served me well, but they have changed the design and the outside is now quite bumpy compared to the original model, which was relatively smooth. That may be why I am having the problem with the Manta now where I had not noticed it before. The new boots work fine with the iSonic though... I must try the old booties with the Manta. Maybe if I wrap the footstraps with electrical tape as suggested by Steve Stratfold, that may stop the new booties from grabbing.
