Lake Tinaroo, QLD, AU

One could say that this was my "bring me back to reality" sail. Very nice afternoon on the dam with Benny "The Lad" McCarthy. Sometimes its the surroundings and company that make the day. Although the breeze didnt really co-operate, there was just enough to keep one's interest. On and off, 10-13 knts which steadied a little towards the end when the clouds left.  Sat around for a half hour during a lull, hence the hour was shite, but im pretty happy with that alpha.

Futura 122 Severne OD 7.8 Black Project 47.5

Made a late call to head up to the Dam today and have a quick sail with Billy before heading back to town for touch footy.  Forgot how nice the surroundings are there!  Even considering how low the water line is currently.  Hopefully we can get a good sesh in sometime soon.

Billy's company and sense of humour wasn't too bad either...  I still remember the day when I was just starting out at the dam.  The wind was super light.  Billy and Ian made a quick decision not to rig up.  Instead they chose to take the time out to give advice and encouragement whilst I was fluffing around trying to uphaul in an uncoordinated mess.  I had a quiet chuckle to myself when there was a moment they both looked away like an owner would when their dog is trying to push out a turd...

First time rigging the Severne OD 7.8 I bought from Kel, yesterday.  Was keen to give it a go.

Only managed to get on the plane once, lighter winds just not enough for this chunky pumpkin's skill level.  Sail felt great though when planing.  A little tuning and I reckon she'll be a goer.  Found it quite tricky when I had to uphaul in knee deep water in the middle of the dam with bugger all wind- balancing & pumping the boom for the cam shift= character building...  Spent some time just waiting near the water's edge praying to the wind gods.

Am keen on trying to get some more time on the water during the week off work.  Thought GI might have been a possibility for tomorrow a couple of days ago, but the current forecasts aint looking that promising.  Will check the forecasts in the morning, PD seemed to have some ok readings today.

Good to read you got a sail in today Freddo!

Awesome write up Benny. I must say, it did look a tad awkward, in the middle of Lake Tinaroo, knee deep, up hauling!!! If only that board had a voice box Tongue out.......

Fangy, I wish I was back on the "Smooth", but life is firmly planted in FNQ for the time being. It was a pleasure to not only share your little place of paradise, but also test your equipment for any faults - for your safety only mate Embarassed

Hey Herb. I dropped into the house on my way in - it was like a ghost town ( i must admit that I thought you had headed south. it has been a long time between drinks). Sorry we missed you mate. It sounds like Black Gully was much better than Platypus.
