Ribs are finally starting to recover to where sailing is tolerable. The jarring of the ribs still gets old very quickly. Hopefully within the next few days I can return to larger sails and start making some progress on jibing.

An interesting tidbit I noticed when comparing tracks with Taty was that he always gets his best 2 Sec numbers at the northern end of the run while mine are in the flatter water on the southerly run. Taty's 2 Sec numbers occur in the biggest swells and roughest water in the bay. I finally concluded that he is using this to his advantage and surfing the swell faces. Sure enough, when I asked him, that is exactly what he is doing. My old brain still has a few functioning pieces left...

Wondered what happened to you Barton, figured you were MIA in paradise. Didn't realise you were on injured list, how bad are the ribs...any BBQ sauce on them?Laughing

Sorry, no BBQ sauce Laughing.

The rib/chest injury was very weird. A couple of weeks ago I was using the 7.5 Retro and biffed a jibe. Figured it was time to see if I could actually uphaul a sail that big. I was in the water so did a pushup on the board to get my upper body on the board. As I lowered myself onto the board, I heard and felt a 'pop' from roughly my lower sternum area. 'Weird' I thought. I proceeded to get on the board and uphaul the sail. Then, that night I started to hurt and by the next morning I could barely move my upper body. Over the next couple of days the pain pretty much went away unless I did something stupid, like, move. The strange part was that it acted like a sore muscle with no specific pain points (so it is possible I just torqued a chest muscle). Anyway, it is slowly getting better. The last couple of times I sailed, I could go about 10 km and then the pain would ramp up, caused by the jarring of the board on the chop, to where I could barely make it back to the launch area. I felt better today so life is looking up... I had decided to back off from sailing to keep from dragging out the recovery.

Off topic comment: While I was puttering around this afternoon using the 5.5 Retro, Taty was getting used to the new 2018 GA 7.1 Vapor. I provided a slowly moving target for him. It was very impressive to watch him coming at me at 33+ knots while I was slogging along doing 5 knots and have him whiz by a mast length away. Was almost enough motivation to get me pumping so I could get out of there Laughing.
