Andrew Haigh (48951km): Lake George, SA, AU Isonic 90 and 6.3m TrX, BP weed 40 First day at LG. Enjoyable first session, much windier than predicted. Not particularly flat by budgie standards but nothing bigger than 4" or so. Although the wind strength did change throughout the day the consistency on a perticualar run was very consistant. Probably the most relaxing hour I have ever done. The water is as clear as at the sand islands and there is no mud to speak of. Most places I hopped off around the edges of the lake were around knee deep with a hard base. Further out the weed is very strange. It is so thick that it wraps around your legs and almost stops movement. rather than stepping towards the board to get on, you have to bring the board to you. | ||||||||||||||||||
sboardcrazy (24363km): 15 - 20kts W Lake George, SA, AU 6.2m - 80ltre iso- 23 gun fin then 87ltre iso and 38 BP weedspeed then iso 80 and 38 BP 50 weedspeed. Fun!!! I thought after a decent nights sleep and a day off I'd be back to normal but I clagged after 1/2 hr..Think I'm getting run down rather than fitter.. Sorry about the bold type..can't be bothered fixing it. It would have been a top day for distance or an hr as the runs are so much longer in that direction..I just didn't have the energy..Hope we get another day like that.. Spent the first 1/2 hr on the 80 with the small fin and not enough wind to really trust it.. I did my usual thing and just practised staying upwind but I got sick of that and came in and changed to the larger board and fin.. Much better! I conquered my aversion to going downwind and headed to the Spit and beyond..A great confidance booster. I wish I had a waterproof camera as it was lovely down there.. I had a few tiny terns hovering above me tweeting as I rested ... wondering what I wwas i suppose..it was lovely. Got back over and was just too tired to be bothered doing another tack so i walked in..I thought that was it but after a rest and food decided to try the 80 with the bigger fin..What ball! I finally got my act together and felt like I was sailing well. The wind had picked up and the board was lifted right up once so just the tail was in the water..yeehaa! Disappointed as I did a well powered alpha..good speed in and out although only a slow planing exit and I thought I might have got a 20 + alpha but it must have been too wide as it chose another. That last 1/2hr was the most fun Ive had for ages and certainly down here.. I'm a bit sick of pushing myself for PB's so it was just what I needed..'so crappy stats but 10/10 fun factor!
