Rules Beach, QLD, AU

89 Falcon / 6.2 R8 / Tribal WS 27

Cruisey sail with th 6.2 and then went wavesailing. Waves a bit messy but found a few pockets to get some hacks in.

Port Douglas, QLD, AU Went down the beach at 3.30 for unhappy hr,wind came in late and was gusting over 30 kts off shore..wanted a quick blast, am trying to dial in new 6.6m Stype North rig..have had trouble getting it to twist off in the big gust so i thought this arvo would be a good time to have a quick play with it ..took the top cam out of it and went for a blast on 97lt ISO with a smaller fin than usual 36cm..Sea was rough with a solid 20kts rig felt good and was twisting off nice in the big gust..was keen to have a good blast till dark..Wind started to drop off so went and got my trusty 38cm fin and powered up North rig to the max..was surprised how well it pulled in about 14kts..wind soon came back honky hard..Went out in to the big pool to try and clock up some kms before dark..Was fully lit up in a very stiff breeze. Was working a bit hard to hang on to, it but it felt good as i was locked in hard...Then i had the crash from hell....Fu..king hit something in the water..Face planted the wave in front of me, have never hit the water so hard ever..Had though i had done some serious damage to my self..first thought was a broken neck..but after laying in the water for a few minites i could move my armes and legs..Was to rooted to water start in almost 30kts so got sail out of water pointed board in to the wind and just hung there till i was man enough to limp home a' broken and bent'...have a very sore neck and back  and i know i have a cracked rib  near my back..I know what they feel like have had them before from dirt bike wipe outs..Not sure if it was worth rigging up for ..Trashed another new harness line as well..No cheers ED..Guess we all live to fight another day...

Holloways Beach, QLD, AU

After chatting with some of the crew and checking the wind predictions, I decided to stick local today for a shorter drive home in case there was nothing doing.

Arrived to find very little wind about in close but with a few white caps out further...soooo thinking glass half full, I rigged up just in case.  Had a chin wag with Peter who arrived shortly after.  Wind started to pick up after a little while, so off I went.

Bugger me, the wind was all over the place!  Went from half decent with directional changes to dead calm.  Should have known better really...  It was then where I was stuck out wide not being able to waterstart trying my utmost to uphaul the rig in near knee deep water!  Try, try and try again...  After quite some time I finally managed to uphaul and dredge back in to the beach at YORKEY'S!, feeling like an absolute wally especially when a concerned bloke on the beach said he had just spoken with the surf livesaver!!

Reckon I walked more than what I travelled on water today.  Was lucky to snag a lift back to my car at Holloways in the back seat of a 4wd alongside two very friendly dalmations, with big thanks to the lovely couple who run the Jungle Surfing in the Daintree!

Silly, silly boy I was!  Should have taken my bigger board today for sure.  In hindsight, PD would have been the place to go after seeing the wind actuals.

Tried to sail with Futura 122 badly rigged Severne OD 7.8 Black Project 47.5...

Oh well, "Long May our Big Jibs Draw!"
