Ok, so the deal with my better half is now complete and to perfection I must say, which entailed- "You can go sailing again for the day as long as you cook a Turkey roast dinner tonight" Done!
Super Fun day sailing in Tropical Paradise! Caught the early boat to make a day of it. Took my time rigging up as the tide was quite high, the wind was strong in a predominate Southerly direction and the water was rougher than what I am used to for this beautiful spot. Rigged the Severne Convert 6.7 with Futura 122 & BP Sabre 42.5. Cranked the sail down and flattened it out considerably with outhaul. Then off I went, like the Long Ranger (Hi Ho Silver Away!), heading straight upwind for the dragstrip which didn't take long at all. Spent some time there having short runs probably because my balls were not big enough to venture out further in the rough water with the strong winds. Call me spoilt, but it was the roughest water that I have sailed on the dragstrip!
Came in for a bit of H2O and an energy snack to meet Dr Cam who had caught the mid morning boat which ended up being a bit late. The Doc looked to have some fire in his belly and was keen as mustard to get out on the water. And he delivered yet another masterclass again for what would be considered a very short session by his standards. Such a pleasure to watch the Doc gearing up on the board for the big downwinder!
Felt overpowered for most of the session. Managed to put me knee through the bottom panel of my sail a couple of runs after Dr Cam got out on the water. Did a few more runs with the sail "as is". Actually, come to think of it, I think I did my best 2 sec with the rip in the bottom panel. Pulled out the bear tape for a quick fix and did a few more short runs.
Nearly pulled off my first jibe today... Carved in nicely, had me feet planted and gave the boom a good shove so it swiveled, then grabbed the boom with my leading hand...at this point I was thinking I've got this!...and with all the excitement, my back hand slipped and I then lost balance- Oh so Close!!
Feeling rather knackered and content...
