Port Sorell, TAS

Well.... thought about hitting Stanley. But stayed home due to blowing 40-50 WNW, when i hit the water. Tidal surges were atleast 300-500mm high and atleast 10knots of current! Surprised No sign of the sand showing it's head, even at low tide!! I was on my own and did a few 300m runs. In what i would call, some of the crazyiest chop i have ever been in at speed! Way too dangerous. Hung around until the others came out but wind had dropped and was still no sign of sand, so called it. Frustrating as the wind and direction was perfect. Easily would have had PB's with a low tide!

Exocet RS3 Mauisails TRX 5.9 36Fhot (to Big)Yell

Fun sail with Kazza Ferg Bear and Steve who was flying off the wind.

Bear was giving him a real run for his money as well.

Stay Happy Russ

Had some fin issues to start with, changed to the Z fin, 3 knots faster. rigged a little bit too big for me today but it was still a great sail. :) flatest I have seen Pitt water in ages.

Great sail at the causeway with some of the gang. Had to really fight with the sail in the gusts with the speed runs down the causeway, but was great to get the gust at the end for the bear away. Cool

Pitt Water Causeway, TAS, AU. FF 98, Tectonic WD 27cm and Warp 6.2.

Loving this combo, great sail with Ferg, Russ, Bear and Kazza. Best sail at PW in a long time. Some great gusts coming through, just needed it to last longer. Gotta say I think Bears GPS is faulty as he was right with me on that 37 knot runUndecided Time for a new GPS Bear...... Great work today, everyone was flyingCool

Stanley, TAS, AU, Just not what we were hoping for today, plenty of wind early but the tide didn't want to go out.

When it did drop a bit the wind went westerly and died.

Stanley, TAS, AU  Fell a fair bit short of what we were hoping for, but still good to have a blast with the crew.

Stanley, TAS, AU iSonic Speed 70, Overdrive 6.2, C3 Slingshot 23

Did the long drive up to Stanley.  Blowing a gale the whole drive up.  Not as windy upon arrival, so rigged the 6.2, but then it did pick up quite a bit.  Tide was slow to drop, resulting in the main run still being pretty choppy.  Did a few runs to test it out, but was waiting for the tide to drop further and then a big rain squall came through and it swung WSW and dropped right out and that was it!

Great fun never-the-less, but can't believe the wind dropped about half an hour before that run would have been nice and flat.  A bit daunting going down the run in chop heading toward the surf break at the inlet - massive!!  Not sure what would happen if something went wrong and you got sucked out there!

Next time!!

Argghhh Izaak what might have been. Still a great speed, well done. Ferg, Kazza and I were 50/50 on coming up. The forecast was showing NW so thought it might have had too much N in it. Didn't think about there being no sand bar due to tidal surge.

Cheers guys! Yeah! Been blowing its date out since yesterday. And a high low tide was forecast anyway. So a good move there Steve.

Thanks guys! Sounds like Stanley was similar! Would it be a better crack at it tomorrow up that way at all? Or too hard to know?

Hi Izaak, I dont think it will be anything exceptional at Stanley tomorrow. Forecast is for squarish conditions on the WSW bank. low tide is late, so flat water will only be for a short while, probably 3pm onwards. Probably fading out before the 5.20 low. But that's probably good enough for a fun back and forward session. If there are a few good gusts swinging from the SW direction it could get interesting.
