Yukio Mishima sought a life like a "line of poetry written with a splash of blood". Instead of seppuku he should have chosen windsurfing. Conditions at Queens Beach today were the best I have ever seen. The SSE was strong and steady and the waves shapely and smooth. Flat water inside the reef was gybing heaven. Right from the start my gear felt perfectly balanced. I was in the groove straight away, and the 5.5 pulled like a train. Gybing out in the waves was a cinch - so easy to turn down the face, flip in the trough, and shoot out with speed. There was hardly a gust in the wind - it was like someone had opened the tap on a giant gas bottle. Inside the reef the wind stayed strong almost right to the beach inviting you to turn aggressively in the flat water. It was just sensational.

Unexpected wind equalled the best day of the season.
