dr cam (40798km): Dakhla, Western Sahara Day 3 Dakhla .Getting into the groove.Day starts with an amazing buffet breakfast /coffee. A 35 min walk into the wind follows up to Camp Vagabond . The wind is stronger today so I choose the Fanatic blast 100l 34 cm choco freeride fin & a 2013North S type 6m2. Several long down wind runs later then a pinch upwind across a vast open channel with an offshore wind (please no gear failures...!!!)I arrive at the speed strip .The tide is still quite high so I have the entire run to myself . My initial impressions from Tues /WED of the run being too short for a fast NM were confirmed today .The wind was gusting between 18-28 knots but is strongest on the square part of the course which is shaped like a flat C. Couldnt really get any speed out of this combo -sail was getting overwhelmed in the gusts & didnt respond as a well tuned race sail does plus the fin felt draggy. Fantastic fun nevertheless & managed some really nice photos which I'll post to my facebook page . Wi-fi here is in high demand so difficult to spend more than a few minutes at a time . Had to help rescue an injured kiter on the way back -he was down near the island minus his board /with a deep cut in his foot -had been there 3.5 hrs & it took me another 45mins to pinch upwind to the resort to activate the rescue service ...interesting experience -made me aware of how alone you are as an injured windsports freak in a foreign country ... Amazing place ... |
