Coodanup, WA, AU underpowered with 5.8 .Overfinned with ff24.

Did not make the best of reasonable conditions but enjoyed sailing down our channel.

Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU. Life is good, got to indulge in two of my passions today. Left a bush camp near Walpole this morning and rode my motorbike home via dirt tracks to Bridgetown, then slabbed it from there. Got home ito find a good seabreeze was blowing, so ducked out for an unexpected sail.  Gave the flats a miss and went out playing in the chop. Had a great time, a good adrenalin sesh Smile, happy with the NM in the chop and on big kit. FF113/GPS7.3/TWS33

Apart from a lot of walking, that was a good fun session with Cap'n Calm, Fin, Basil, Joe and Johnski. Post the full story later :-)

Barge KaR7.1 FF24

Plan A was the Mistral Flow, but after dogging it around for an hour or so, I finally pulled up for a rest. At which point I noticed the fin had become loose. I had been giving the bergs and the bottom a hard time to try and widen the path, and certainly noticed some decent nudges. In any case, when I tested the remaining thread grip, unfortunately the fin came out in my hand. On the plus side I didn’t lose it the fin. On the down side it was a long walk back to Nairns.

I set off with a body drag technique. I was going along relatively OK, but after about 50 metres I ran across a crab who in a past life had been a Rabbi, and an expert at a circumcision. He landed the nip within a centimetre of the crown jewels as I dragged over the top of him in the weeds.  Waaaaay tooo close for comfort.

I stood up and walked the remaining 300 kilometres back to the carpark, or at least that’s what it felt like. Once back I swapped on to the Barge and it handled the conditions nicely. Of course, halfway back up the run, I realised I still had the FF22 tucked in my vest. Aaargghh. Turn around, head back in and dropped the fin on Cap’n Calm’s board on the beach, because I was too lazy to walk the extra few meters more to put it with my stuff.

Once back out on the Barge, I had a nice session, running down the chop across to the next bay, then back up the top, turn in the patch and charge down the channel. I had planned to make a start making a path for an NM, but our existing path was an exercise in ‘Resistance is Futile’ and I never managed to escape its lure. Maybe next time :-)

Later in the day, it seemed strong enough for the Missy Flow, and I reckon I could have got an extra knot or two from her, but the Barge always puts a smile on the dial even if it's not so quick...Top Ten Fangy Day with the Mobbers for sure.

Aim today was distance hour and alphas, well I got the distance, but the other two didn't quite work for me, thank goodness for stretch and johnski.

Went with the rig of the month, 6.2, 53 and 20cm @55d.

Bit underpowered to start with, so had the sail bagged out, towards the end should have flatened it out a bit, but couldn't be bothered.

Good turnout and lotd of fun, tide was nice, but higher would have been better.

Coodanup, Patrik 92/Kestral 22, TRX 7.0 Ok so that’s more like it 😀. Got out on the 92 for the first time in ages and had the correct mast in the TRX which drastically improved it. I haven’t had a sail that rotates so well before so I’m having to adjust the way I gybe slightly which may take some time to perfect. Only got on the water at 4pm but sailed until 6:30 with the hour done from 5:20 to 6:20. Very short runs for the hour and having to gybe in the chop on my weak side was challenging but good practice. All up a great session and good to catch up with mike after as well.

YeahBob just noticed that. I think it's the momentum muscle that counts. Tongue out

Glad the crab missed! Made me laugh out loud so I had to share the story with Nina, which was a mistake. She remembers hearing about your trained attack crabs before, and now she says she does not want to sail Fangy's weed farm anymore! Hopefully, she'll realize that the crabs just mean she should not through herself onto them doing freestyle all the time, and instead stay on speed gear Smile

Fangman was the fin just drilled and tapped or did you have an insert in there?

John - Powerbox single bolt, tapped into the aluminium with no insert. I was experimenting with the longevity of shorter thread depths. That one had thread engaged to a depth to 12mm - I was comparing it to a Delrin insert which is 12mm also. My usual depth directly into aluminium is at least 25mm. To be fair, I had given it a pounding and treated it badly, not only touchdowns and weed burgs but also sinking the board and burying the fin in the sand and then attempting to sail off with full momentum muscle load...

Today I reinserted the same bolt, tightened and tested the fin by trying to knock it/pull it backward by hand. Interestingly, I couldn't get it loose. Which made me wonder a bit about the sort of loads that I had inflicted on it yesterday. In any case, drilled and tapped to full length now. Joe V was telling me he had used stainless steel barrel nuts on his, but it is too soon to see if corrosion will be an issue.

Breaking News! Swindy in his Teletubby Super Coupe is involved in a high-speed pursuit with the police! Photographed this arvo on Kwinana Freeway. Apparently, it's all about his non-payment of parking fines - he has a habit of parking IN Safety Bay rather than next to it. Stay tuned for more developments.

Latest developments...Swindy is continuing to drive slowly and use his wobbly head tactical driving to keep officers at bay. He now appears to be heading down to the South of the border to mix with  Hardenupians and Albantaricans if predictions are correct. More to come.

No sign of T1, he appears to evaded police. Police have advised the public not to approach him as he is well dodgy. In the meantime, T2 has escaped from the crash scene and is singing Celine Dion songs to traffic again.
