Had a few runs in the gusts with a 23 fin over the bar and thought Pt Walter may be on so I packed up and headed expecting similar condtions to last week. I was wrong. Too much SW direction. Early dinner and beer for me today.

I thought we should test the new 57s on the choppiest ocean we could find, and 25 knot winds at South Freo fits the bill .
Because the ground swells don't get in, there's no relief from the chop between the swell lines that you find at Leighton and Cott.
The board is a winner - balanced, controllable and super easy to gybe - makes an almost unsailable spot fun

That was as hectic as it gets. I've sailed a few places in my life and that has to go down as one of the choppiest...if you wanted to train for any event, South Freo is the place. After that everything else will feel like a speed course. A little underpowered but ok...ish

Gusty, holey, couldn't complete a gybe, but being on the water was better than being at work, the company was good, and at least I had the sail tuned nicely today.
Maybe I should forget about gybing and stick to tacking. Much more reliable (for me)

Now that's better than working!! Pretty lit on the 7.1 / 90 combo, but probably needed more downhaul come to think of it. Just couldn't be stuffed going back to the beach to do it. Hour attempt #2 for Peli, and I feel like I'm getting back to better form now after so much time off the water. I'm reasonably happy with the outcome, especially as it wasn't the most predictable chop out there today. Finding the groove was difficult, to say the least. I think my stance today could be best descibed as 'hanging on for dear life poo stance' - survival mode for sure!! Could have been on the 6.3 in the gusts, but if I've learned one thing about hours on the gusty choppy river it's that you have to rig a size up.
Good to see Steve M and a bunch of the usual suspects too. A physical session, but great to be out sailing with a good bunch, and an awesome way to start the week!

Quite consistent for a frontal breeze. Still lots of holes but as always, good to be on the water. Water was very shallow over the sandbar today so mostly stayed off the speed runs. However seeing a few of the usual suspects tearing across late in the day was too hard to resist. Got a few runs in late in the session to see what the new speed fin could do. Mostly underdone but the fin felt slippery. A couple of spin outs in the chop but felt solid off the wind.

Late sail, mostly did gybing around the markers, changed over the fin to a 24 to play over the shallows, probably left it a bit late for any good speeds but still had fun.
