1961 days ago 2 categories Christchurch Estuary, NZ ..Exocet RS1 (80 litres) ..Overdrive 6.2, Select 33. ..Pushing my luck sailing with hardly any tide left. Difficult to go anywhere or do anything and a lot of weed into the bargain. Nevertheless glad I went out, found space to make a couple of gybes on the flat water that I really enjoyed
As well that modest 10kms today has just pushed me over 2,500kms, it has taken me almost 2 years sailing in the GPS Team challenge to manage that.
..2,500kms or 1,350 nautical miles happens to be a very significant figure in my mind on another level - it is the single longest distance I've flown an aircraft alone, with no autopilot and also dead reckoning with no navigation equipment (was in 1985 before the release of GPS to civil aviation) - Iceland to Canada, took me 9hours 15minutes averaging 146knots, had 100gallons extra fuel in a box immediately behind my seat to extend the aircrafts normal range.
