Lake George. SA.

I made a very early start today, rolling out of the Camping Park just after 6am in the hope of catching the strongest wind as per the forecast. I thought I would be sailing alone but lucky for me Sammy heard me go and followed soon after. After a quick conference at Packem Pt. we decided to go to the spit. It was definity the right call. Chocko pointed out the night before that SW was the perfect angle to run the spit on Starboard tack. He was spot on! Cool

It involved running out into the lake past the trees and coming back in to bear away down the spit.

The first few runs were perfect angle and high 30's. Then we got a squall and really got a big squirt , but the wind seemed to have gone a little more South as it felt too tight but I was reluctant to bear away into the chop so I didn't get the full potential out if it. It was still the fastest run by quite a bit and felt great.

After the fifth run as I sailed back, the wind started to ease a bit and I get stuck way out in the lake (where I could not stand on the bottom) with not enough wind to waterstar the CA40 for quite some time. Eventually a cloud came over with a small squall and I managed to get going and back in. After that I went for the small slalom board and saw Sammy going into the middle lake to sail a flat spot so I followed him. The conditions were much better than I expected, with quite a large almost glassy patch, but i was underpowered so came in to change up. On the beach, I realised my Sciatica was REALLY hurting, so I gave up and packed up.

There was definitly some good flat water down that end of the lake and it was disappointing not to feel good enough to keep sailing.

I tried the Fangy 18cm (which is actually 17cm) in the JP70 and was quite impressed. Quite a lot of grip and spinout resistance from such a small fin and cut though the weed like a hot knife through butter. disappointed I could not test out its limits a bit more. Job for another day. Smile

CA40, KA Koncept 5.2m 2019, 17cm, Then JP70/54, Fangy 17cm.

I think the name sailquik is now redundant, needs to be Mr 40kts, I dont think any other human being on earth has windsurfed at 40 kts as often as you have, a true masterCool

+1 on what Hards said. Serious respect for getting that tiny fin to do anything Daffy - even my garden trowel is bigger, and possibly more usefulLaughing

Great speed! Glad the 18 went well. It will be interesting to see what sort of top speeds it can get in the hands of a fast sailor..

Impressive speed. We should create one day of 40 knotters list  for Lake George.
Maybe we could find the biggest stone, rock on the beach and everybody that hit 40 could engrave their name date and speed for posterity?
