Fun..
I only had 3 hrs sleep last night so I didn't really feel like using the big heavy gear. I rigged my favourite combo. It was a bit patchy for the first 1.30hr so I was off the plane a fair bit but I got enough nicely powered runs to keep me enthused. 5-12kts in the lesser areas with 15-19kts in the better.
The Carey run wasn't working. The wind was lighter up there and patchier.. I didn't learn.. I went up there 3 x hoping for a great run backbut I had to slog until I got enough wind to risk gybing.. The best wind was out in front of Coal and over at the island and caravan park. No flatwater 30-60cm moguls .
It's certainly choppier at Coal than at Valentine. The WT ate it up and I had some fun times bearing off over the back of the chop.Started with 50 % flex but ended up with 75% and it gave a nice spongy comfy ride even breaking through the chop upwind.
It got really good at the end..There was a dead patch for the first 300m but then pretty consistently 15-19kts all the way across to past the caravan park. Not much weed either.
I'm getting pretty comfortable with that combo. I wouldn't have been game to go out in the light stuff before , feels good going upwind. I still need to work on my gybes but I'm getting better.
Did my first ever nm from Swansea heading down below the point.. Got wind all the way except for 100m but managed to keep on the plane through the lull.
I've been experimenting with the Go pro placement. I wanted some footage looking back at my expression as I go for nms etc in the chop.. Putting it on the front of the boom gets in the way gybing so I put it on the mast above the cutout. I hope it worked..
I started to miss the gybes as it was getting pretty strong and I'd been out for 3 hrs by then so I called it a day..Andrew said " We're going around Pulbah if you want to come"..zzz another day and on the big board in case it dies down..
Andrew , Lajos , Tony and another foiler ,Greg out late not many boats and a lovely afternoon's sail.. I'll sleep well tonight..zzz
