First Session for the new team and what a start it was. Wind had a few patches in it which meant speed runs were a bit hit and miss but got a few good ones in, changed board to the futura to bust out some alphas to good effect as well CoolLaughing

(EDIT) Sorry guys have scrubbed alpha PB pending 3rd party file check, big gap between trackpoint and doppler and a weird dopppler shape

(edit 2) After two checks from others I have claimed the 24.533 Alpha again

That's not bad for just your third scoring session Beavers! (You need a new name with beaver in it) Second on the table already. Well done! Just goes to show you don't need a lot of sailors to do well, just commitment.

Edit:

I tried using a URL but all I got was a symbol instead of the pic. I have since found that means the image is too big. This is a bit more complex but it works. -

First save the image on your computer. ( I do "Print Screen" and then copy and paste into paint, crop and save. Then compress the picture otherwise you still get the icon but no image) To post the image you click on that tree symbol on the bar above your post, then use the browse icon to the right if it's saved to your computer. When you get the upload image screen you browse to locate your image and then click open and then "upload". Nothing will appear to happen but if you look at the bottom of your screen there will be a tab "insert/edit image". Click insert, and Voila! There it is! These are Stroppo's PB tracks. Looks like I compressed them a little too much.

Tomski

Yep bender. Im stumped as I can't see any issues with the file on realspeed. I've just sent it to Elmo for a lookSmile. See what he comes up with. If anyone wants to have a look its KA72'd. Might be time to make a uniform method of analyzing or posting data??

Yeh I think first up team captains should check all PB's and then out source  to guys like Elmo for independant advise if they look a bit suss or realspeed and KA72 dont agree.

There's heaps of guys that can check data files. It can be dissapointing when a PB gets knocked back but at least you know ur PB's are realy yours then.

It probably did upload but all you got was the tab at the bottom of the screen (in line with "start"), which is easy to miss if you are not looking for it.

Tomski

WA
Australia

It seems KA72's recent changes might be causing an issue. If data reading is not left uniform, there can not be PB's for alphas as the rules constantly evolve. I don't have GPSR so Ill see what Elmo comes up with.

Congrats on the Alpha PB Stroppo and Mitch.

Stroppo, your file on Realspeed gives me an Alpha of 27.215kn and considering your next best 2 alphas are 26.793 & 26.617Surprised I'd say there's something amiss with the KA72 result.  There's no spikes or inconsistent 1 sec recordings so looks good to me. That's committment starting to turn in at 32knots too.

Great numbers for your newly formed team too guys - well done.

[Edit - just ran through auto upload feature on GPSSS (they use GPS-Results)and it gave a 27.15 result so I reckon all good]

Tomski. I have run it through Realspeed and can't see any issue with the 1st 2 alphas which KA72 is discounting.

Time interval,ok. Match between doppler / trackpoint. Consistent sats.

track

I think for alphas and PBs just keep using the same method to compare your PBs. As for posts I have often argued that nearest 0.5 is about as accurate as we can get. 27 +- 0.5. (Probably 0.3 if being picky)

Stroppo has taken a slightly different approach here of a more downwind run in for speed and an upwind run to make proximity. Not so obvious in this run but more so in others.

Cranking min speeds of 16 / 17. It would be interesting to see if he would have been slower on a more square run with even entry / exit speeds

Thanks for the effort guys. If I have anydoubts about any numbers or files I'll flag them and if necassary scrap themLaughing (honesty is the best policy!!)

Lao, when you say difference between trackpoints/doppler what are you refering to? The rest I have checked.

I'm well stoked with the small number of hugely talented guys on the team so far. I still have a couple more tricks up my sleeve.....watch this space.

I think the most exciting thing is our junior division. Mitch (already proven speed sailor), my son Ji (whos still deciding what to call himself), but sailing around hooked into his harness, in the straps and planing and my youngest boy Lochie. These boys will be the building blocks for a long Coastal Speed Team futureCoolCoolSealed.

Well done guys, nice corner PBs, strop and mitch.

As Mal wright invented the alpha, I'd always go with the realspeed results, where there are differences.

Maybe Dylan would like to comment on ka72, rejecting the first 2 alphas. Tom, as trackpoint and doppler use different calculation methods, if they are in close agreement, that's an indication things are good

Thats an ourstanding Alpha Stroppo, no matter which way you look at it! Cool

I downloaded the file and ran it through both GPS-Results and my custom copy of Realspeed (Mal compiled me a version of RealSpeed with the option of both 'Rectangular and Trapezoidal modes).

GPS-Results gives 27.14 (it uses rectangular integration by default for Alphas)

Realspeed in 'Rectangular' mode also gives 27.14

Realspeed in the default 'Trapezoidal" mode gives 27.21

I can not see any reason why the best Alpha would be rejected by KA72, but I can easily see why the second best could have been rejected. There is high SDOP error values highlighted in GPS-Results in the second best run right on the gybe which could make it suspect. But there is no obvious issues with the best Alpha! Smile
