Did the safety bay slalom today.

first slalom sail after the finger recon.

was doing well until i did the mother of a wipeout heading broad down one of the deep legs and tweeked the finger :0

Anyway got back in and strapped it up and ended up 6th overall

as instructed i then took my aching body off to do a couple of runs down the speed run which was super smooth. never quite hooked into a really strong gust which is a shame as could have been a PB

The SB event was really well run and great fun so well done to the team down there

isonic 107 7.0 reflex down to 87 and 6.2

Safety Bay, WA, AU 4.9K, M41, 21 Tribal weedspeed

A bit of a frustrating session despite the PB. Got a peak of 33.6 on my first run (which is a second best speed for me) and I thought great! I can improve on that and get a PB. Sadly it was not to be. The wind dropped a little and the first run was the only one I was really powered up on. Added to that there were kiters galore and I don't think I got one clear run the whole afternoon. The weed was really bad today and the fin collected weed like a chinese mandarin's moustache (and I mean 50 cm strands trailing behind the board) and eventually I gave up. I should have changed fins and put on a bigger sail but by that time I couldn't be bothered. On the plus side, the board was an absolute dream - only the second time I have used it. It accelerated beautifully and it was actually fun even in the ocean swell and chop, and felt very safe. I almost felt like going for a run down to Pengoes just for fun. Love the Mistral board. Not so the fin. More rake needed at the top of the leading edge Mr Lockwood!

Great to catch up with JJ, Alan and Lester. Lester had a very good day and was a happy man. JJ's boom broke after one run but luckily I had my spare one with me, which he used. Supposedly Jake was around somewhere but I never saw him. I did think I saw Jonah going for a few runs. Jonah, I am very pleased that you were wearing your GPS, but are you sure the doctor is OK with you sailing so soon after your surgery?

Wallyworld.

Got Jemma set up and looked after the kids for a while. After 2 runs she was back saying it was too strong. My eyes lit up!

In the end it wasn't anything to get excited about, but some good fun to be had. Only Mark and I and a couple of kites. Lots of swans down near the island, and almost collided with some dolphins, twice!

Good way to end the weekend.

Late afternoon session at Wallyworld with Chris and Jemma.

Bit of testing with the M SL 91 / KA23 and the Loft switchblade 6.8.

Sail felt good but needs a bit more downhaul for the stornger winds on the smaller fin.

Watermans, havent done that for a while. 5m SE wave, 79l wave board. was first one out, although some kites were coming past when I was rigging. thought I had chosen too big a sail so pulled it out flat at first but that was too small, very twitchy. let it out a bit and then things were a lot better so 4.2 would have been too small. Smile had the lifesavers on the beach and flags up so felt safe. High up on the fun scale today.

Safety Bay, WA

Awesome team session at SB - Anita, Lester, Allan and Jake and one rather fast blow-in Cool

Snapped my boom-end but luckily Anita had a spare boom (saved the day) - wasted the best wind getting it together and missed my adjustable outhaul on the run. Heaps of fun, tide was a bit high but some nice flat spots.

Wind was a good 20 to 25 just not many powerful gusts.

Safety Bay, WA, AU F2 Axxis 278, 26 JP weed, Gastra Remedy 6m.  Happy to break speed PB. That old leaky board is still working. Now it needs few days to dry out. I did 34.95 on my 3rd run and had trouble improving. I moved mast foot back a bit, gave the sail a little belly and I followed Chris. It took me over 35. It was Chris’s best run too. That was already with a broken batten. I realized I was in too shallow water for my 26 fin and came off quick and the batten caught the bottom. Shorter fin and bit more power would get me moving faster, although shorter fin would also make it harder to get back. Just the right time, place  and right company.  Thanks captain.

Super speed JJ, I'm sure you could have hit 40 if that boom had an adjustable outhaul.

We were in the right spot today.

Great team turnout, with more to post.

... well, I saw you Jonah. I got off the water about 5.30, Alan and JJ and Lezz a bit later. Slowie had packed up and left by the time we came off the water.

Congratulations on two big PBs Lezz. That 2 sec was hardly downgraded at all! You can do worse than follow Slowie, that's for sure. We just need to get you on some fast gear. You are a really good sailor with great potential to go a lot faster.

Nice 5x PB, Captain!Cool

JJ, I might have a spare boom end if you need it? Nice speed!

AC1. Where did you have the track on Lurch? It needs to be powered up so a 6m was probably too small yesterday.

Hi Mark,

I started with the track in the middle, then moved it back 3 of 4 times, a cm at a time, until it was in the back 1/4 which improved the speed a little bit. With the track that far back it was planning from the the tail to up to about half way between the foot straps, but I couldnt get it to lift anymore than that.

I didnt have much power off the wind to be honest, but JJ was flying on his 6.3, so it was a bit of a mystery. I was going to change to my 7.0 but was talked out of it.

I think maybe I wasnt getting enough speed across the wind first before bearing away. I'm also going to try moving the front stap back one hole next time, and see if that helps.

With a weedy I would have the track back to about the number 4. In the picture you can see that the track is quite a long way back compared to the Mistral. You may also need to try a bigger fin. The best fin for me in that board was a 26 pointer but it did go well with the KA 23cm when really powered up. I think that is a bit more upright and powerful than the tribal 23.

Alan, I think you were not getting enough speed across the wind. There was one time you took off before me and I caught you up, before the bearaway, which shouldn't happen (especially with me on a 4.9). I was doing 28 knots across the wind on that run. You seemed to be heading upwind a bit on the approach, which would have been slowing you down.

Well done on the PB Anita, I see your top 5 2 secs are all above 32.5kts, how does that feel?

Great to see you enjoying the small boards, I was daunted by the idea but as soon as I used them I found they are great to sail.

It feels like a long time since I was trying to crack 30 knots, and it feels good to be able to do it regularly now. 34 is the new 30...

People have been telling me for years that I should be on a 63 L board in strong wind. They were right. It is lovely.

Congrat good speed Anita! These mistral boards seem to be nice boards..I definitely want a smaller speed board now I've noticed how they eat the chop..
