Windfoil, Foilville

Decided to stick with the foil as the forecast wasnt promising.

Started with the 8m which became way too much in the gusts so changed to the 7.

Very gusty out there today. Kenny was owning it on the slalom gear in the rough.

Melville Beach, WA, AU iS111 6.2K 33 Tribal weedspeed

My first sail since the 6th of June. A warm sunny morning and improving health tempted me down to the river. When I got there it was windier than I had anticipated, 15 - 18 kn with whitecaps, and having not sailed for such a long time I thought I would rig conservatively (6.2).

Of course the wind swung and dropped just as I was ready to hit the water, but that eased me back into things and as the wind picked up I felt comfortable. It was a goldilocks day where all the gear felt well balanced and I remembered how to tack and gybe and only missed a couple when I started to get tired, at which point I decided it would be wise to call it a day.

The water was much warmer than it was in June. I am keen for this to be the start of the season. Roll on windy sunny days with temperatures above 20 degrees!

It was great to catch up with Ricey and Flatchat and some other forendly faces.

Birchmont, WA, AU

A bit of a non event, went to Coods tide was low but was sailable on the outside, before I could rig Stropo made a suggestion for Herron Point so off we went. Was looking promising wind was steady 15-18 with the anticipation of building. Alas not to be fairly patchy for the Hr run, great place for an HR if the wind is consistant but not today. Wind dropped out while stroop and myself were close to the island so a little walk back to base and called it quits. Great catching up with Dodi in the morning, and sailing with Stropo in the arvo we had the place to ourselve.

Wasn't expecting that. Got there and it looked marginal, so decided to rig big. Floated and planned nicely for a little while before the wind picked up and became a handfull with the big kit. Thought about changing down a size but instead started yakking on the shore and called it a day. Reasonablt good conditions for a warm winter front.

Foilville, WA, AU

Started off with the 6.2 and mistral 91 but wind was a bit light/gusty so changed to the foil. Wind started to fill in so I decided to changed back to the slalom board as involuntary airtime on the foil started to become imminent. Madman Lunny did well hold on to the big sails on the downwind runs in the gusts.

Actually turned out to be a pretty powered session on the slalom gear. The masochisitc madman that i am again decided to go for an hour in the chop. Headed to Melville but stayed upwind where there were a lot more wind shadows closer to dalkeith side. Wind swung WNW to NNW so was a bit tricky getting back to base. Made it back after an hour to see Snides getting some flight time on the wing. Pretty cool to see.

All in all a pretty good day. The dolphins are still hanging around north of the jetty.

6.2 Overdrive, mistral 91, 31 sonntag

Glad to get a reasonable sail.

Northerly rather gusty and choppy but settled down when it swung more to the West.

Good to see Anita and Flatchat.

Punta Paloma, Tarifa Spain

Just survived the Tarifa washing machine. Was on the Windtech 57 with a 4.0 Goya wave sail and Tribal 29cm speed weed. Most of the locals out had 3.0 up to 3.7 sails and windspeed was around 35kts with regular gusts up to 40knts. Needless to say, I was in survival mode for the 2 hour session and no opportunity to get any decent runs or NMs as the sea state was pretty scary. Tomorrow looking like it'll be easing off so hoping to post some better results then. Will send a couple of pics on the email a bit later. Hope all good back in WA. Cheers, Dan P.

Maree, I have had asthma rather badly this winter. It takes the lungs about 3 weeks to recover after an attack, and during that time energy levels are low and extertion is not advised.

I have also been away in Europe for a month - no windsurfing but fantastic scenery.

Well done on your 2 sec today!
