So Hardie, this year's breezes aren't any good eh?

What a magic session, Fangy's aren't the only PB's, and the question about how fangy fins gybe has been answered!

I had 22kt gusts and 17kt average before rigging, so decided it was worth trying the repaired 5.8 on the 48 with the 19cm @ 55d. Really nice combo, but I could have used the 43 with the assy 18, I think it would have been faster. But my time today was limited, and didn't want to struggle so went with the safer option.

The wind was exactly right for the NM run, the last few days have been too broad, but today we could stay inside the weed bank all the way.

The alpha channel wasn't optimum however, the run in was a tad upwind and the run out downwind. I was doing 25kts going in and 30kts going out. But I'm pleased with a high 24

Watch results.

Wow what a difference a day makes, PB on the NM, I am Fckn Stoked, Fangys was Fangin today, what a great NM run that is, had a 35.601NM, a 34.958NM and a 34.478 NM, the 35.601NM had the 38.857 2sec and a 38.184 10sec, wasn't sure I'd made a full NM on that run.  When you look at my NM track you see I pull out just as I've done 1852 metres, what a fluke arsey NM that was, WooHoo, makes up for all the shitty sails I've had of late.  Mistral Speed 95/55, TR16 6.3m, and used both the Fangy 20/48 and the Pepeweed 21/48.  Both fins feel equally fast.

NB:  Speeds posted here are from GPSresults, later I thought I would post on KA72 to register my NM run there, and there appears to be a few 100ths difference.

Top One Fangy Day Laughing  Too excited to post anything sensible. Post more later when I have returned to acting like a sensible adult instead of a kid on too much sugar.

Vintage 1993 Mistral Edge. FangyFin 20. Koncept 6.6

Fangyland with Hardie, Cap’n Calm, Swindy, Fin and ‘Ken.  I am still struggling to adult today. The holes in the cheese aligned and it was just freaking fun. Such a big bottle of awesome sauce, so much lack of discipline. Every time I got into the Smooth it was slingshot time.

Eventually the Jedi mind tricks from Hardie convinced me that a Nauti was worth doing. I was running out of forearms so I thought I will have one crack before home time.

Yeah Boys! Nailed it first up. Time to thank the audience and go home.

But before that it was brilliant watching the lads do their thing.  Swindy went past me using sign language ( or he as having an epiliptic fit ). I was pretty sure he was telling me he had 26 doughnuts in his van, but it’s possible it might have been something else circular, but he certainly did look as happy as if he had 26 doughnuts in his van. But, I am beginning to suspect Swindy has yet another FF PB to add to his pile.

Smokin runs from the fellas, some much stoke on the water. Top Fangy Day, like ever.

Coodanup, WA, AU  Pat SL 100 then pat SL87, KAR 6.3, FF20

Got down to fangys early but not much happening, as the others turned up so did the wind, so cautiously rigged the 6.3 and the 100 just encase it dropped. Went out for a few runs and the 20 fangy fin was hanging in there but not able to push too hard on it so Ross needs to invest in a 22 for xmas. Went in and got out the 87 and started to have some real fun. The fangy fin with that combo was amazing, even in the big chop down the Nairns end I could push on it prety hard and in the flat and small chop it was unbelievable going hard upwind at speed. I reckon if I hadnt kept stopping to check my watch I would have had an amazing Hour.

As I was unable to get above the 36 mark again I decided to try for alphas instead and to my surprise it wasnt long and I was getting over 25 which I havent achieved before, then the big one over 26 and I was stoked. It mst have been the entry speeds done it for me as the jybes and exits wernt that fast because of the weed but I'll take it.

Good to see everyone going home with smiley faces, its been a while since such a good day.

One of those bonus days, totally unexpected.  Was on my way to get the boys and my lovely wife called me up and said she could get them. Thanks honey.  So ducked out quick as I could to try and squeeze in an hour before dark.  Got there just in time to see the team all looking super stoked as they packed up.  Nice to see such big smiles all round.

I had a lot of fun and sailed until the sun was below the horizon.  Super good to get out and a mile or so of smooth to play in, stunning sunset and warm enough for the budgie smugglers.

Said, NM run was great!!!!!!!!!!! 35kt PBs for Hardie and Fangy and I have 4th best ever. Great stuff guys! (edit now 'ken and fin join in the NM PBs, what will swindy do??? Well what do you know he's got one as well, along with a stonking alpha PB)

And for fins that weren't designed to be fast, they're doing a remarkably good imitation of it.

Wind wasn't super strong, gusting to 25kts, (although the windguage at the yacht club is in wind shadow with a SW). How much faster would a pointer have gone on a speed bank?????

mandurah wind

For comparison at 2:30 I read 17ave 22kt gusts not far off. The wind on the ocean is stronger than the above chart, but the wind at Fangys is less than the ocean.

That is what I was hoping for yesterday - obviously I was one day early. I didn't finish work until dark tonight so I couldn't have sailed today anyway.

Congratulations everyone, but boy am I jealous!

How was the tide today compared to yesterday?

So how does Fangys NM compare to Lilacs NM???????????????????

Morts

WA
Australia
2304 days ago

More PB's Surprised Fantastic! Congrats Paul & Roger on the NM's & the smoking turn & burns Cool

Lilacs NM won't be any good (relatively speaking) until we get back into higher tides during the day. There is a growth of new weed that becomes exposed towards the last 1/3rd of the run & to get around it you have to go out of the smooth early or you end up going too square trying to get around it.

I would guess Lillacs still is the KIng. The weed is exceptional this year, whereas Lillacs does it every year.

I'm thinking the coodanup nm is the best as it still holds the fastest nm in WA and you can start it in more places to suit the conditions and you can scare the wolker's crabing!

Not a lot different Anita, a tad lower if anything.

Anita, the tide was a bit lower, we had to launch from Nairns end. The fish nets - yes a sphincter moment the first time, but then realised you can rip across them without noticing - sorta like sailing through weed, who would have guessed? Laughing

Cheers Daffy, but in reality it was not down to the FF. We just had a day when all the holes in the cheese aligned. Tide and wind were just Goldilocks for NM, and every now and then a good little squirt for speed too. Laughing
