Lilacs JP54SP TR17 6.3 FangyFin 20 then Elmo 19.5@48

Forecast was for 25-30 at 5pm, Joseph thought it would be better earlier, wind measured at 5:30: 13kts

Arrived and measured ave 18, should have rigged 7.0 but it had been honking so went 6.3. Never fully powered on NM run.

But should I complain, no it was great fun out there with Samy initiallly and then just Elmo and me. Thanks for the loan of the fin Alby, it is certainly slippery.

First run  I decided to sail over the san to get a longer NM run in. Unfortunately there was onmy 100mm of water. Board stopped dead, me over the top and boom all floppy. Bugger I thought it was broken. Luckily it was just the rope on the mast clamp. Bodged it with one side of the adjustable outhaul and I was in business.

First NM top speed 37+ but did not feel quick. Next NM 36+ top, that averaged to be the best of the day. So I had sun, warm flat water, no broken boom ( foot a bit bruised) and a great time.

Recalculated with Realspeed (my standard programme) at home.

Had issues with Alpha which had 2 mid points with low sat readings but an otherwise smooth gybe. So a PB in my hardest category, woo hoo.

Tabou Manta 54, NP RSR E7 7.0m, Pepe weed 21cm

Had a great day out with my Chicky Babe and it was blowing bloody hard down at the Whaling station and the gap, Got back after 3 having measured 22knots at where HArdz was going out again.

Got back to Lilacs andf rigged the same as yesterday although I did start with a 19cm fin as the wind was supposed to go mental at 5pm, unfortunately it just kept backing of.

That said I had a ball doing a few Naughties no bare aways, tried a few alphas made a good sized dent on one.

Great fun sailing with Steve, A great day

Huge congrats to Sammy and Hardz for being there when it happened then making the magic happen, well done guysCool

Groovy baby.

Fantastic NMs sammy and hardie, see what a captain's sacrifice can do for you!

My theory about NMs there being 2kts under the 2s worked in both your cases today.

Sounds like you had a bit more water, and could get slightly longer runs?

I like your theory on 2 sec v's Nautie's Decrepit, that should have got me a 40 NM today! Laughing I guess that theory only applies to a place where the wind and water conditions are as consistent as Albany.

Just wish I could get down there... I think it is very unfair that Huey waited until AFTER the long weekend to send all that wind to Albany.

What a day for NM's!

Joe & Sammy those are an incredible matching pair of NM PB's! Just awesome Cool Cool

Alby & Steve even though you may have missed the peak conditions you both scored matching 2nd best ever NM's, which is pretty cool Cool Cool

Should be a bit more serene tomorrow as the Millpond is hoping to get a sail in before nightshift.

I have seen a few posts about the abrasive nature of the weed at Lilacs. Anyone on a FF got any feedback for me on how the aluminium is holding up?

I asked Jeremy, and he says there's a little bit of wear that needs a light sand, heaps better than G10, but not as good as stainless.

Wow...that's flatter than Nicole Kidman in Windrider! Hardie do you specialise in head shrinking or torture, posting those pictures are messing with my mind. How can it be so flat for 2km? That red muppet Elmo is bigger than I thought.Surprised

Is this a seasonal place like Lake George, or does it work year round? What’s the best wind direction? It’s only about 2700km from Adelaide... 🤔

Chris and Roo. There's a long weed covered sandbar across the end of the harbour, Every time I've been there that hasn't changed. I'ts open to the ocean at the top end so is tidal, but even in the highest tides I've seen the weed is still efective at keeping it flat. That's the lightbrown streak in the background of the pics, it isn't sand, that's exposed weed.

The weed inside the bar does vary a bit, at the moment it's quite heavy, especially on a lowish tide.

So it's not seasonal as far as the water goes, but it needs an Easterly to work. Best time for this is when there's a big high in the bight and a trough down the west coast. Perth is becalmed in the 40s, Albany in the 20s with a howling seabreeze. Going there is a no brainer!

The google earth screenshot below is my tracks from Thursday. My tracks look a good distance from the sand bank, but I was right on the edge of the thickest weed, in fact in the top right track you can see the purple change to blue and back to purple. This was me trying to blast through some thicker weed, only to almost get dragged over the front. I went from 35kts to 29kts in 5 seconds. But that track makes the full 1852m in purple. all the others start and finish in blue.

Elmo, Your Gybing has looked great this season and I'm not suprised you've PB'd and I think thats one area you've got plenty of PB's to come, congratsCool, I wont make any comment about how you've destroyed me in the alpha category this seasonEmbarassed

PS. Thanx for all the positive comments, it was one of those days when for about an hr the conditions were absolutely perfect, and I for once was in the right spot at the right time, I can garauntee that amyone that had've tried for an NM in that hr would've got a PB, I think the big boyz would've got close to a 40kt NM.  I've never experienced a feeling like that before of going so fast for so long, and getting faster as the run bears off to the wind more, my best feeling in windsurf everCool, and thats 35yrs of pretty sensational windsurfing

I've checked Elmo's alpha, and as he says the number of sats drops below 5 for 2 samples. This is below the filter threshold of KA72 and GPSResults, so they don't allow it. However the latest GPSARPro and an older version of realspeed does allow it. As Alby says there are no spikes or glitches and two low accuracy samples aren't going to affect the result by any great amount.
