Green Island, QLD, AU Nice Cruisy day in Sunshine & with a Neap tide on the Island .

Started on the Evo 8 7m2 & Jp 93 but a spontaneous tear in the sail from the clew area down the undersurface of Batten 2 during a gybe ruined the next 2 hrs .Was around 3klms from shore when if happened so as the tear started to extend vertically & was forced to stopped ,rig an outhaul rope thru the batten clip on batten 2 back to the clew to try & stabilise the tear .Thought I's seen most types of equipment failure but this one took the cake !! New sail with ~ 2-3 hrs of use in total & NO TRAUMA to explain it ...!!!AGGHHRRR.

Derigged/rigged the 7.8 & got back on the water then had boom issues -worn rope/jammed teeth /slipping head ....aggghhhr .

Finally got things settled & managed a few decent runs before the water ran out .The Jp 93 with the tribal SW 31 felt surpisingly good & managed a couple of 1/2 decent NM runs .

Kel looked to be enjoying his new TOY - thrashed me today ....Yell Nice sailing & bring on Thursday !!Cool

Port Douglas, QLD, AU.  My mate Ed was getting his jobs done for the Green Island trip tomorrow.  I just bought a  2014 Gaastra Savage 7.9m from Sunshinecoastsailboards for $490 and was keen to try it out.  Dieter said the sail had only been used three times.  Looked brand spanking new to Ed and I.  The more I use my 2010 iSonic 133 litre, the more I like it.  Came with a bag and a fin for $500 a couple of years ago.  Bought a 53cm Select fin for the lighter winds.  The wind was variable and I could have rigged my X-Type 8.2m but wanted to tune up the new sail.  Needed another  2-3 knots.  This season has been a shocker for me.  Ended up very quickly being knocked down the beach.  Contemplated the "walk of Shame" but decided to try and work back up the beach.  After three hours i had done it.  Happy to have increased the distance I travelled.  Only had two planing runs for the whole afternoon.  The planing run I did back to the beach gave me an indication of what this new sail is capable of.  Really grunty, and with the right amount of downhaul, really light and easy to use.  On that planing run the board got up on top of the water and the nose lifted up nicely for a nice, hovering run.  Of course, if I spent more time planing I think i could have easily doubled my distance.  But the sun was out and there were lots of people [and a few kites] enjoying this beautiful FNQ winter day.  Ed and I are trying to get in shape for our September trip to Noumea - so we are looking for lots of Time On Water.  I think so far I have been out for ten sails and only two of them have been worth talking about.   Hopefully later this week there will be the chance of get going.  I think I am going to get some good use out of this new sail as it really seems to suit my iSonic.

Well done guys.  What new toy did you get Kel?

Cam, I know you love those sails but that relationship must be really testing you atm ;-)

Been windless down here although busy with work and house reno's so not a lot of time for sailing anyhow.
