Yes, it is a bit different sailing on fresh water (not as buoyant), and the wind often swirls around. But, we do have the world's best windsock, thanks to the grateful taxpayers of Australia, namely the flag on the flagpole on Parliament House. When we see that flag go from limp to horizontal, we know the "easterly" is about to hit. When it arrives, the lake is as smooth as glass for maybe 1 minute, and the sensation is surreal, before the chop starts to build. Can imagine it's like Sandy Point, and other speed strips.

The easterlies aren't all that gusty Mineral, but you need a bit of patience to sit on the bank waiting for them to turn up. Or if you're brave, as Bristol did last night, you can bob out to the east on the fading westerly hoping the anticipated easterly will bring you home in a blaze of glory. I don't attempt that anymore I've been bitten once. It's along swim back if the easterly stops at the airport.

There's a gusty nor-wester forecast for tomorrow, last hurrah for the month?
