Speed saiing session at the Foreshore Rd that ended in elation and tears.

Went out in a 25-30kt Westerly that seemed to build nicely after I'd decided to try for a new PB, which I achieved! and everything was great,.... until it wasn't.

But first the good. Water near the launch area and runway was flat and fast, but by half way down the normal runway segment the chop buildup was quite bad, and not quite the right angle anyway. Had a few good but bumpy runs, then went right up wind, and turned down the runway with a gust to rocked off on an extremely broad reach and just FLEW!!!.

Then disaster about two runs later.... somehow I ended in the water after being catapulted, but seemed odd, got pulled sideways instead of forwards like a normal cat. When I popped up, sail was extremely heavy, the noticed the mast snapped, and the entire thing was full of water. Tried uphauling but sank to my waist.

Has anyone ever had a mast snap while sailing, how does it feel.

I had to wait a few minutes for another sailer (Thanks Andrew!) to notice me, and go get help from the rescue boat. They couldn't even see me from their moring, so I would have been waiting a while. Think I'll get a flare.

RS2, 91L 7.0m TR6, Nitro fin 32cm.

I'd be a LOT more upset if I hadn't had such a good speed run.

Good to see Arthur out there as well.

Oh and I've got some photos I'll post on Seabreeze.

Rainy, hailing, sunny and bloody windy down at the Pit. Rigged the new KA Koncept 4.9 and boy is it such a sweet sail. At times I was overpowered and underpowered.

a great way to finish Speed Fortnight for me. Didn't quite get that gust today to shoot me to a 2 sec pb but I had a ball. A big thanks to Sam from Wind Surf N Snow for loaning me the Falcon speed which is just an amazingly easy board to sail. I only wish I could have done it justice.

Next year!!!!!!

Heat one, NSW Formula Series. Completely destroyed my board in race on, fast repair job with tape and bog. Managed to finish the next three races. Totally exhausted as it was very windy. Only had my GPS on for two races.

Good on you Dave. Yeah it feels great to break 30 after seeing everyone else doing it and it taking ages to make it. Next step for us is 35.

Well done on all the PBs guys. Sorry I missed you chaps at the Pit this year. Work and life got a bit in the way this week.

I agree Leo, Sandy has spanked a few sailors and I should know after busting my nose in July last year. Cry
