Peel Inlet, WA, AU  Back in Mandurah, bit of fun in the no sun, frezzun gusty cold winter frontal wind, and freezing water.  Best part was catching up with the freindly pinnas (tho is there such a thing)  This is the Year of the Pinna, but honestly, I can't wait to get back to Dampier in July  Can anyone believe this? (In particular I need Ross to respond) = One cheeky pesky Pinna even had the audacity to tease me about my former obesity disorder?

Quick manic foil session supervised by Bob, thanks mate. On the new foil felt like learning all over again but without crashes amazingly. Foil defo wants to go faster than the old one but feels completely different. Lots of fine tuning to do to. With 15 cm less mast under the water and a 2ft swell running down the middle of the estuary I was being very carefull not to foil out. Im sure I will get used to the shorter length. 

Good to see Mike back on the water.

Fangyland. Got a sail with Cap'n Calm at long last :-)

Overpowered for most of the day, but still remembered to have fun. Post the story later ( don't worry Joe- I've got your back :-) as is feeding time at the zoo now.

Party Barge, SimmerSCR7.8, Swoody 22(FF28)

I had a cunning plan in place to make sure I was on the water before mid-morning. The gods then conspired to make sure that didn’t happen, and by the time I had the holes in the cheese aligned, I think I had missed the best stuff. I followed up my munted morning plans with some poor choices. The breeze seemed to be dying so when the Teletubby went for a 7.0, I put mine back in the trailer and pulled out the 7.8 instead.

I spent the next hour or so well and truly overdone. I was using the SB64, but somehow couldn’t find my production FF24. End result; out of control and very uncomfortable. I cranked on the downhaul and mucked trying to de-power, but in the end, I gave up and went for the big ol' Party Barge with a fin capable of holding the 7.8 without giving me too many sphincter moments.

Speaking of sphincter moments, I had two worthy contenders today. The first was a near miss with a good sized stingray, the second a near miss with about a square metre chunk of ply and pine drifting ashore. 

However, the proper big moment of the day was Cap’n Calm finally getting back on the water. It was brilliant...until he overtook me. At that point, the gloss wore off very quickly. 

The proper low point moment of the day was yet another infestation of Peskys. The front paddock was ruined by the time I got back from the school run by the Pesky version of Agent Orange…the Bozinator. Happily, by the time I got back, there was no sign of him. The joy was short lived. The Wicked Wench of the North had taken his place. Still, it could have been worse. Poor Hards ended up with a plague of Peskys on his patch. Even worse, they were pond bottom dweller Peskys. I know Hards was damaged by sailing too close, but I feel I dodged a dodgy pond dweller day.

So apart from making a poor choice of kit, and the wind being well freezing, I am going to call it a Top Ten Fangy Day.

Back on the water at last!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At Wamba St.

Not bad conditions for a first sail, but I had a bit of trouble first run.

I'd rigged the 5.8, plugged into the new 48cm board with my fangyised deltoid.

Hoped on and headed east no problem, but when I stopped and tried to head west, the board went downwind as soon as I hooked in, and I got thrown over the front. So thinking this won't happen again, had another go, &&^%$ identical, except this time the sail lost out in an argument with the harness hook. So it was back in and either change to the 5.4 or the 6.2, went with the 6.2, I'm still not sure if that was the right call, I didn't feel quite balanced, but my have been underpowered with the 5.4. Wanted to try a deeper 45deg fin. But while waiting for my back to heal I'd obviously rearanged my fin collection. The only one I could quickly put my hands on was a 20cm 40/60. A nice fin, but too small for the 6.2. Had a go anyway. It felt nice and slippery downwind, but didn't want to go back up.

So came in and had lunch, wacked the 26cm 45deg into the 53cm board and had another go, This felt much more balanced, the wind had dropped a touch, and swung SSE. nice long runs out to boundary Island, but I fell into a hole out there, and really felt my lack of sailing fitness, so decided to call it a day.

Finally got to post a session using Peter's GPSSpeed Reader, just hit the button, "post to GPSTC", and fill in these comments.

Unfortunately the motion had got itself set to two hz, so there's no accuracy comparison, but the results are very close.

I will do a check with GPSResults, but I'm 99.999999% confident there won't be a problem.

GPSspeadreader's not quite ready for general distribution, but I'll keep using it as a testing process.

OK here's GPSResults with min speed 0kts.

2s 31.854, 5x10 29.135, 1hr 11.924, alpha 11.924. NM 22.334, dist 40.224

Difference in the 5X10 is because GPSResulst has the acceleration filter set a 8m/s2. This is fine for 5hz data but 10hz data needs to be much higher, speed reader's default for 10hz is 16m/s2. Once I changed GPSResults to 16, I get 29.423 only a rounding up error different.

Checking the difference between GPSspeedreader and GPSResults on the GW52 file I get a big difference for the hour, this is because the GW52 is set to a min speed of 3kts

11.878 compared to 7.6. This is because GPSspeed reader can start the hour in a zero speed area, and GPSReults doesn't start the hr calculation until a min speed of 5kts is reached.

This speed reader's hour starting in a 0kt area.

And this it Results hr starting at 5kts.

The best hour has been bypassed because the start of it is below 5kts.

So this is a good reason not to set a minimum speed, especially if memory isn't an issue.

As a matter of interest, I checked how realspeed and GSARPro handles that hour. Real speed is exactly the same as speedreader

Starts and finishes at 0kts. and gives a slightly higher result 11.908 Possibly because reader has a 0.5kt min speed filter. (I'm coll with that)

Then GPSAR, this is similar, it starts at 0kts but finishes at 5kts and gives a slightly lower result, because it misses the dogging at the end.
