fangy (22667km): Fangyland with Frank and his useless GPS again. That session was dedicated to Stretch, who flew out of the state just to make sure we got a decent breeze. Thanks mate :-)
The breeze was straight from Albantartica and I had lost feeling in my fingers by the end of my first run and couldn’t hold onto the boom well enough to gybe. Not long after my toes went numb, which absolutely killed off any thoughts of fancy footwork. But that is the end of the downside of today’s session. The rest is all Top Ten Fangin mucking about.
The wind shifted about from S to SW, strength 15-20 for most of the time, but occasionally there were some strong bullets charging through. The tide was high enough to come in close, but last night’s storm has herded the weed up to the Nairns end. End result; not much smooth, but not much weed either. I didn’t try to put the pedal to the metal until my last run, I was just enjoying running down the chop lines. When the breeze settled in the South for a bit, the chop organised itself into lovely little rolling waves that brought back memories of sailing in the lagoon at Avalon on a NW.
(On a tangent, not much sign of any weed near the surface that I could see. I don’t want to write off this year’s crop of weedy goodness just yet, but atm, it’s not looking promising.)
That was a dead set blast of a session, but I am paying for the last two days now - I am well knackered.

Hardie (35683km): Peel Inlet, WA, AU Liptons, Freezing and a bit of Fun, RRD Firestorm 65/105, TR9 6,3m Pepefoil 23/48 great fin, Pepedelta 19.5/50+ bit small for this board. A few other mentals out. | ||||||||||||||||||
Decrepit (54483km): Joined Joe at Lptons, just a little late. Trouble with being a creature of habit and needing my lunch at 1200. white caps everywhere when I arrived, and Joe looked to be going well with his 6.3, so I rigged the 5,8, new 48cm board, (well it's not that new now!) and the 19cm@55. By the time I was ready to launch, all the whitecaps had disappeared and Joe was plodding back in. We sat on the bank for a while, then a few white caps appeared upwind. Went out to meet them and had several good runs. Then I ran aground and had a bit of a walk to deeper water, then the wind dropped again for a while. Then I discovered again, how tireing it is to sail the 48 just under water. Had a few more runs when the wind picked back up, but by then I'd had it. Called it quits and had an enjoyable talkfest whith Hardie, elmo, stroppo, pacey and a blow in from Denmark. |
