Mallacoota, VIC, AU Quick spin at GWS, went over in Isaccs boat and was reminded very quickly that he was now a Bridesmaid. He insisted on rigging in a new spot where i could not use my speed board. I also asked some advise and the new Bridesmaid said you can get ----. I think Isacc has changed now he has become a Bridesmaid. I thought Bridesmaids were nice!. Satelites must of missed my Alpha again!. Jp Slalom 110, Venom 36 KA 5.7

SANDY POINT, VIC.

Another wet and sandy adventure in the wild victorial weather! Tongue out

At least it is not freezing cold now. I never felt uncomfortable in my 4/3 wettie today. Smile

Kato and I waited around for  few hours for the wind to swing and kick as forecast by every weather model the world has. Everything said it would go 30-35 knot and 260 degrees at 5pm. Nada! We took out first runs at 6pm with the wind still pretty much dead west (270). Actually, the wind angle was OK for the top of the course, but we miscalculated on the tide, which was rushing in and making standing waves. Scary, out of control as soon as we hit the bank and accelerated bouncing over the rolling waves. Not cool when you are 140 off the wind!

I had actually stepped on at the first dune (old starting point) and got to the course at speed and on the right angle, but nearly lost it in the bouncy standing waves at 36 knots. I had launched in only 25-30 knots so I had taken the 5.2m.

As soon as I stated walking back I realised that was too much sail as the change hit properly and was turning the water speckled white. Since neither of us felt like risking another run for a while, Kato helped me carry the 5.2m back and I got the 4.7m.

20-30 minutes later the wind semed to have swung just a little so we tried a run by going up the channel and coming back high. I watched kato's attempt and it did not go too well. he was bouncing out of control and did a semi controled crash not far down the course.

I tried a different approach by getting further upwind and trying to come in much close at the start where there was a patch of flatter water to accelerate on. It kind of worked as this run said a peak well over 37kt and by the time I got into the rolling waves, I was pretty well settled.

I tried another run going high again and it felt even better but I chickend out when it started to get a bit rough. As soon as I backed off I knew it was the wrong move, as I was right against a speed bank and the angle and wind was perfect.

As I was walking back I was caught in the middle of a raging debate between 'young, gung-ho' me and 'old- wiser' me.

Young: There is a 40 there if you just bottle up. Need to do another one and DO IT!

Old: Yeah, but what the point. I will still only have 4 runs and if I crash it will be nasty.

Young: Get serious old codger. A 40 is a 40!

Old: Yeah but so what? Pleanty of safer ways to get a 40, and plently of other oppurtunities. Besides, Kato is walking back and it's getting dark.

Young: But there is still time and the water is flatter now, and the wind has almost certainly come around another 5 degrees.

Old: Nah, stuff it. There is no point risking hurting myself. Nothing to prove. I'm out'a here.

Young: Pussy!

etc, etc.

I must say that I am happy older and wiser prevailed. Laughing

Looks like quite a few windy days over the next week.....

Sandy Point, Vic, AU

Skunked

We tried... just too west and too many swell lines on the course Yell

The last run I did was a wild ,out of control, unhooked , near crash for a 32kt result.

Time to go home with everything intact.....old head won Laughing
