1556 days ago 10-15kts SSE patches 15-18kts Coal Point, NSW, AU - better wind and more SE in Belmont bay
85ltre Windtech - 5.7m gator - 25cm Maui ultra wave centre fin
then 1 run 7m M2 OD - Rs2 ( 90ltre) - 33 makani weedy
Should have been on the big gear although it would have been too big for the chop.
Left home and it was 10-12kts E at Coal..got there and a S???
There was a big wind shadow in the bay at Coal as usual in a SSE. The wind rises up and goes over the hill. It looked to be 15-18kts away from there and I had WT withdrawals..After the horrible chop yesterday I also wanted to use a more comfortable , smaller board.
Decided to challenge myself..If I could get out of the bay without falling in and getting washed onto jetties it should be great! Managed to get out ok just scraping above the southern reef but there wasn't as much wind as I thought. About 30% planing. Great in the gusts and I had some fun runs in Belmont bay.Got the 2 sec on the WT there.
The foilers were doing laps around me at times..Had fun over there.I would have liked to get higher up as the wind was better and the water flatter but the wind wasn't consistent enough to get there.
It seemed to be dying a little so I went back in and rigged the RS2. I wanted my NCX but I'd left it at home. I forgot how much I hate racegear in the chop.
New mast and the sail wasn't rotating properly.Luckily I didn't fall in.
I usually love the RS2 in chop . Ok there wasn't enough wind, but when I did get going I noticed the straps washing with the waves , it was harder getting in and out of them and it smashed like crazy in the lumpy 2 -3 ft chop in Belmont bay..
I'd noticed the WT was slapping a bit more noisily than usual but it wasn't till I got on the other board that I realised how bad the chop was. Not much fun so called it a day.
Happy I got my WT fix .. That board has spoilt me for my others..
