Tibor (17540km): Gosford, NSW, AU Well, we were hungry for this session after watching the crazy westwrlies for 4 days. Mike , Paul and l went out in the still semi strong westerly. Took one size smaller sails. Of course true to it's colours it died about 10 minutes later. There we are bobing about and on the way in when l saw a darker line from the south. Luckily l have waited for it as it became the nicest little breeze. Would have had a perfect time out had it not been for a big piece of timber doover. Could have been a breakaway oyster rack. Of course l saw it only the last minute and l could not do a thing other than scream as l have catapulted. Of course the only thing l worried about was the board and the foil. Absolute miracle...there's hardly a scratch on the mast. Something to be said for the SB quality! ..and the strong foilbox in my board..
sboardcrazy (24381km): 5-15kts WSW - SW then a short time of 15-20kts SSW Coal Point, NSW, AU 7m NCX - WT64 - 39cm C3 sting pointer 6.6m KA Koncept - 36cms drake 7m M2OD Disappointed... Today was the first forecast where it looked like I'd get a nicely powered session to see what the new board was like. Rigged the 7.5m GT Turbo and the mast broke at the cam below the boom as I downhauled.. I suppose I should be happy it broke on the shore and not out in the middle.. I've had 3 years of use and it's my most used mast so I was expecting it to happen sometime.. just weird where it broke. Plan 2... Rigged my old 7m NCX on the 430 mast..not much good.. although it said 460 luff and I used the 32cm extension the sail is old and strectched and needed heaps more downhaul. The leech was tight and the boom too high even at the bottom of the cutout. Luckily I have adjustable lines so I let them right out but it was pulling at a bad angle and digging my spreader bar into me.. Anyway it wasn't too bad at first although I only got going in the best gusts.. later when it came in more the sail was hard work. Rigged the 6.6m Koncept.. Which finally rotates ok after Daffy changed the sticky cam to a different length one.. That was lovely and light and nice in the stronger patches but there was only 10mins of good wind . I realised I had the 7m OD in the car and that rigs on the 430 ..dur..Rigged that but by now it was only gusting to 10-12kts and then died totally. I did get a few powered bits. Boy it feels fast! It sits on it's tail and just goes..I didn't bear off much and it was only a few 100m but fun!? Don't know if it will translate to good speeds re the GPS but it's certainly a buzz.. Good test- 5kts -20kts with patches of 5-10 at times and 30-60cm lumpy cross chop. It's still a slapper but a really comfy soft riding one.. Tony foiling , Lyds ? on a slapper , John making foiling gybes look effortless , Gert and another few guys.
