Sailed Leschenault Inlet again with JP106L-Loftsails 6.3 Racing Blade-JP 26 Weed Wave

On and off conditions similar to yesterday being part and parcel to passing fronts. Certainly appreciate the gusts when they do come throughSmile

South Yunderup, WA, AU xfire 114 koncept 6.2 fangy 24  One of those days, took forever to get rigged then as soon as I stepped in the board the wind dropped, did eventually have a reasonable though short session and a nice cup of tea and bikkies afterwards with my fellow Stonehenge Druid.

I'll vouch for the 33knots, saw it on the watch so where did it go? glad I didnt get caught in the weed but managed to scrape the weed and sail thru as my 24 fangy is is cut down to 21 and curved back so any bigger fin would be interesting.

New 55cm board, 5.7 speed. I read slowy's advice to use a wider board with bigger fin in the chop, so gave the 26cm 45deg weedy a go insted of the 20cm@55. Seemed to work well in the chop, I actually got the board right up on the tail and felt quite confident, but the chop wasn't that high.

Hmm, classic druid day.

Of course to get the Goldilocks scenario it takes 3 goes, today for me it was mast extenders, too long, too short, and at last, just right.

Then it was 3rd camber inducer popping off while rigging. Thought I'd fixed it, but after a great first run downwind, (watch showed 33kts) I discovered I hadn't. Wondered why the sail wouldn't rotate to get back upwind, only to find Camber inducer sticking out past the mast. made getting back upwind rather difficult.

So it was back to the beach to join the other druid who was having his own problem with a mast base.

By the time we got sorted the wind dropped off!

Groveled out across the boat channel for about a KM, then I spotted some nice smooth stuff with a few weedbergs on the edge. So I entered very slowly to discover just how much weed was there, and if I was confident enough to sail it with the 26@45. Soon discovered the weed bergs on the surface was just the beginning of a submereged weed island, waist deep very thick weed, about 2cm under water, couldn't walk through it, and it wasn't dense enough to walk on top of. Only way out was to body drag, trying not to get too entangled. Took me 6 minutes to get clear. Meanwhile Druid two had started planning. Wind stayed up but it was getting too late to make it back before dark, so called it in case the wind dropped off and I couldn't get back across the channel.

But Fangy can't crow too much, he'd left his phone in the boot to discharge, so didn't get my text to say it was on.

Red squiggle in the middle is the weed island

Now I'm going to process the watch data to see what happened to my 33, (was it from another session I'd failed to delete)? I'll be back with the reason, I hope.

OK, this is down to the watch on the wrist in underhand mode.

The red watch with 7 sats, SDoP goes very high and I get a false 33kt, meanwhile DIY3 on my head with 20sats maintains high accuracy, and drops me over a knt. The motion logger will match this if it's also worn on the head.

The rest of the results are much closer though.

Nice one Druids, one day there be some younger awesome chaps there when you are rigging to help you with all that complicated rigging stuff. Just do not ask The Scud about mast bases bless unless you want maths that only the Federal Treasury can provide. I have since dropped my phone back into the depths of the boot of the car. It’s quite exciting to grab it out after a week or so and count all the messages - mostly from Slugger asking for a back rub and cocktails session...
