sboardcrazy (24353km): 10 – 22kts SSE Cockies Lake George SA 6.2m OD – 80iso-18 tribal delta 7m M2 OD – 80iso-18tribal 7m M2 OD – WT 57 ( 90ltres) – 21.5cm FF ( cutdown 24) A reality check. Horrible.. I decided to try the go fast gear today for once. Got to Cockies and Daffy was reading a consistent 18-20kts gusting to 22kts so I rigged the 6.2m with the 80 and a faster fin. Set off and I was powered but not enough to bother trying for a nm. Got to around the islands and there were some nice gusts and flatwater and I had one or 2 bearaways. It’s certainly easy to break 30kts with that combo! It was also easy to get better speeds with the alphas so I hope I get 20kts of wind and flatwater to have a try.. I realised I was a long way downwind and the wind was pretty patchy. Pity about the gear selection and gumby sailor as there was some great flatwater.. A lot of new things and combos today. First time I’ve rigged the 6.2m and 7m on the 430 RDM. Love it ! Great rotation and they felt great. I haven’t used the tribal much and I was worried if it would hold in the small chop. It was great powered up and cut through the weed more easily than the fatter Fangy . I got upwind ok powered up but I missed the lift of the Fangy. I was on and off the plane so I decided to go back and rig bigger..Ugh..felt like c 1hr later I finally got there.. Groundhog day with those b islands..I’m going to have nightmares about ttrying to get past them..lols It headed me at both ends and I lost the wind over the other side. In the end I just slogged up..trudged the long way to the shore..zzz and rigged the 7m. I was going to go the 90ltre board but I wanted to see how the 7m and tribal 18 went on the 80. Great in the gusts but the same problem.. I fell in a few times and struggled to waterstart in the lighter patches..Another struggle to get back. I could have done another 4 tacks to get back but I was tired so just sailed into the shore and trudged back upwind.. It took about 15mins . I was pretty buggered by now but I wanted to have some fun so plugged the 21.5cm FF into the WT ready to explore the lake..or so I thought.. I noticed everyone up the top had gone home and when I hit the water I could see why.. I was still underpowered.. Felt like 10-15kts..Grr I got one puff and merrily went on my way but didn’t realise how far off the wind I’d got until I turned around..argh! Another groundhog struggle back and trudge in..The board went upwind well when I got enough to plane. I almost got a planing gybe on itand I wasn't really trying so I'll have to have a dedicated day to get used to gybing it.. To make things worse the better sailors ( Bogans and daffy and Martin ) were flying around upwind and down…grr grr Daffy , Martin , Andy , Jill and I at Cockies and heaps of Bogans at the Spit.. Bsck to the fun gear until we get some stronger wind.. Absolutely stuffed.. Boy that fish and chip meal at the end tasted good! I’ve been so hungry lately I must looked like a cavewoman eating..
