very shifty wind this morning but fun launching of some of the wind swell.

Melville Beach, WA, AU.  Sailed here as technically the only spot within 5km for me.   Just got going and looked like being an ok session but noticed the main batten broken just a couple of inches from the cam (didn't notice at rig up).   Looked like wanting to pop out through the sail so chose to give up and walk back to avoid further damage.   Had hoped it was just that I hadn't put the cam on properly or some other rookie issue and could get back out.   Once on the beach though confirmed it was broken.   Probably could have rigged a smaller sail but had burnt most of my hour so gave up.   7.8 Severne M2 Overdrive, 120 Tabou

Cold, overcast and light wind. 8 - 12 kn when I first arrived, with periods of 12 - 15 kn. I would not have headed out except that Morts and Waricle were making it look easy to get planing in the light air, so I pulled on the winter wettie and cold weather gear and headed out. My elbow injury made it impossible to gybe on starboard tack, so I was glad it was shallow enough to jump off to turn. My gybing was OK on port tack but elbow pain prevented me from throwing the sail forward as much as I needed for a smooth exit.

I tweaked my back lifting the sail to carry it back into shore, so I hope that doesn't prevent me sailing again soon. The injuries are mounting up. Not fair! I must be getting old.

Still, the company was excellent, the water was flat and shallow, it was better than lockdown, and better than being at work, and definitely better than fighting bushfires. No smoke down here.

Hope you mend in time for the next sailing session Anita. It doesn't look too promising tomorrow so far. Enjoyed sailing with you and Morts and first time venturing over the sand bar for me too.
