Fangyland with the Scud for an arvo of spring time goodness. Not much wind, but nice to be back on the still very fresh water.

I got to try out my latest thought bubble of a fin. It's based on a NACA 16009. The fin is short and fat with the thickest chord section close to halfway back. The fin was pretty well spot on the money for expectations - it behaved very benignly in the chop and seemed to be slippery enough across the breeze. It didn't manage to provide much windward lift and The Scud carved me up big time on the uphill stuff with his FF28. I think the fin will be a good starting point for a light wind/big sail shallow water fin and I am keen to try it out with some proper bear away action to assess its speed credentials properly

Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU CA66 KAR7.1 fangy 24. A big crowd of locals and visitors from both north and south converged in what promises to be the start of a great season at Australind.

A lowish tide meant smaller weedies were needed in the smooth shallow water.

Apart from about 20 minutes of good breeze we were mostly just cruising on the light/medium breeze.

Flex was on a distance mission and was relentless. I watched while I had coffee and cake.

I'm the one guilty of killing the good breeze when I changed down to the Mistral Speed. The breeze did come back when I de-rigged for the day.

Worth the trip just to catch up with all the guys.

Ideal conditions for Glory holes, except for the wind! Had a couple of OK gusts and one overpowered one. Most of the time lightlu powered or wallowing.

Rigged the 6.2, 55cm board, and made the big mistake of plugging in the 26@45 weedy./ First run grounded it, went over the handlebars, boom craked the nose and my knee split the bottom panel of the 6.2..

Great to see plenty of weed and some actual real smooth stuff. Really enjoyed that!

Nice crew out, the pinnas were going for distance, and I think they made their objective, Flex is a machine, he just didn't stop.

Waricle and I made up the MM contingent, and there were others I don't know.

Nice going fellas, glad your ok Mike but sorry about your kit. Sounds like the new fin could be good Ross and how was the 8.4 sail?

Slugger the new fin is early days yet, but I am happy with it so far. The Avalon 8.4 is a proto that I believe was initailly made for foiling, not slapping. It has a big head head up top for lots of bottom end grunt. It's really good for me cos it can drag my arse out of the water and get me planing on the Barge with no fuss - the pull forward is like a tractor. However, I am guessing that leverage from the big head might be an issue for lighter fellas when the sail is at the top of its wind range. I have the single cam 6.3 in my hands now too - so keen to give that a spin!

Haha Tricky ya sneaky bogan - I was hoping I be able to slip that post straight past you to the keeper with out you noticing.( Using a FF20 for a 7.0 is still a far more impressive feat I think the Fat FF22 I used is just sooo ugly, the Party Barge simply takes it upon itself to try and get away from it)
