Melville Beach, WA, AU

Melville Chop City, the Slow one still managed high 39 master at work, good to see kenny on the wave board pulling forward loops like a pro, Ben with a grin on his face as he survived on the 5.0m sail, and Richo our new team member sailing like a champiuon no doubt 40 just around the corner. Should have nit the bullet and headed to RSoles but will have to wait for the next big blow, will be good to have the low dfown from the Antman when he posts.

Fun session on the slapper. Nuking winds and messy chop made for good bump jump conditions.  Good to catch up with a few Pinnas. Winter again in October.

Has pretty hairy out on the water, decided to rig the sail a tiny bit flatter, headed out again and it was even dicier. After a few but clenching runs I left it for the big kids to play.

Lake Walyungup, WA, AU

Bit of a trek to get to the launch site, pays to make sure you have all the kit you need as i forgot the uj which cost me another 40 min trek :) Payed off doing the recon with jim the other day as this gave me confidance getting close to the bank.Probebly had a bit to much from the nnw but odd squirts from the nw showed the potential for some fast runs. Was good to see jim rock up and have a bit of a chat.,He left it a bit late to sail but informed me of woody,s encounter with a tiger snake in the grasses near the park, just as well i never new  :) There was some huge gusts coming through that fully powerd up the 5.4 NX 53 Patrick,20 Dws..It was super choppy 20 mtrs off the bank and quite hard work in the gusts but super stoked to get a few 40 knot runs and lkn fwd to giving it another crack in the next NW---WNW..

Lake Preston, WA, AU. Headed to Boombas but was so cold and uninviting decided to explore Cheesegraters.   Arrived to huge rain squall and did a quick recon of the route in, got totally drenched and cold. Wind was howling.  Was thankful for the largest homemade pie ever from the nearby Myalup general store to keep the spirits up.  With the squall still on I got into the wetsuit, loaded the buggy and headed off.   Rain stopped, sun came out, water was crystal clear so rigged and headed out. Magic.  For the first run I stayed well away from the sand bank as no clue of depth, was ok run and had potential so gybed and headed back for another run.  The next gybe had come into a wind shadow on western side and came off...bloody hell, Decrepit had warned me but I was not prepared for the saltiness. His words of vomit inducing saltiness are right on the mark.  Couldn't water start as in the wind shadow so opted to swim the few meters to shore..the mud was exactly as Decrepit had advised...infinitely deep.  Got to shore, thankfully the last few meters is hard limestone and not sharp to feet.   Was wretching from the saltiness and to make matters worse forgot to bring water.  Whilst trying to recover from this monumental salt overload a big gust picked my rig up and it landed perfectly on my buggy, going straight through the sail.  Maybe this day was not meant to be so I just walked the speed run to check depths.   30 minutes later was still suffering from my brief immersion.   I did a buoyancy test and was more floaty than the dead sea (and a lot cooler). Quite surreal floating about 1/2 out of the water with hands and feet in the air.  Thought I got a selfie but didn't work.

Figured it was a bit dumb to be sailing alone in this spot with water that is so toxic so decided to head back to Boombas since the wind had swung a bit.   I arrived and conditions were a lot better and was relatively flat inside Robert bay so started rigging but had a lot more west than expected...hang on, more west only meant one thing....Antman was heading to Walyungup.  So decided to go join him, arrived very late but he was out. Woody was there but had been spooked by a snake so was sitting it out.   Figured by the time I loaded buggy, dragged it the 1.5km and rigged it would be time to rig down so just ran out to try and film him.   Sure enough encounted the snake on the way but was smaller than the cockroaches at home so didn't bother me.      Antman was possessed, I filmed for an hour or so and was in the process of leaving when he gesticulated wildly for me to return.    He'd cracked 40...40.5 peak.. I promised to film 2 more runs and then leave...10 runs later he was still going and still going when I got back to van and headed home..wind was kicking in.  Didn't do much sailing but seemed to be a full day of adventure none the less.

Flex, How B unlucky was that? Is that pose you saying "oh no!!" or "look Mum, no hands" ?

I appreciate your enthsiasm for exploration. Thanks for checking out cheese graters. Was there much plant growth on the sandbar, and if yes, did it cut  down the wind?

Congrats Ant, on your first 40kn 2 sec!

I know, you bettered it with 41 but this is your first 40.

Many more to come, I am sure.

The look on your face said it all.

Congrats Ant on your 40mate. Well earned and deserved. You were braver than me today. Dealing with unmarked, submerged car bodies, and a fridge and finally a close encounter with a tiger snake put me back in the van and kept you solo today. It looked like a mad max scene seeing you trudge 1km across the sand. Top effort Ant and to others out today 👍

Anita, based on one run there was a definte 200m section where the wind was strongest, roughly in middle..walking the run, the bushes slowly shrunk for the first 1/3rd of run to very small then continued to shrink...  so wind steadily increased and then had the full force of the wind for the next 2/3 or so..if it wasn't for the salt it would be super spot. Would have been better had I done a few more runs of course.   Definitely would go again though as super flat but would sail way closer to shore as the yellow/blue transition line was at least 50cm deep.  Next time with buddy and water though.   Picture is roughly of whole run folage...the distorted bits on left are where there is shrubery

Mission day! Good work. Jim, sorry to read your sail got hurt. First rip is always the hardest- especially when its survived 13 years unscathed! And you didn't mention how caustic the mud is. Dont stand in it too long or you will have no feet left. It hurts like hell after a minute... the burn... Sorry nobody mentioned its suboptimal to fall off in there. Perth has some good plastic surgeons to sort out the extra limbs that you might find sprouting in the next few weeks...

R-soles.... that place...  Glad you got a taste of it Ant. And the snakes didn't get to taste you. Didn't Dave Buckney actually get bitten by a snake in there back in the early days?

That's probably the deepest I've see cheesgraters, you can get closer to the water's edge when it's a bit shallower.

Slowy, for the record your sail fell apart last week by itself at GH and was same panel that self sacrificed today.   All good though, nothing a bit of duct tape won't fix. Mud didn't seem to hurt, but I have never worn shoes so that may help.  Was kinda creepy though with mud that has no bottom and same density whatever the depth.

Since it was a bit of an adventure, a video of the day exploring Cheesegraters and Rsoles if anyone interested. (Lake Preston and Lake Walyungup).  These are non tidal so everywhere else suffered super high tides. https://youtu.be/47Zh2K-NA-o

When dunking onesself in hypersaline water be aware of Osmosis.  This is the movement of water across a semi permeable membrane (eg your skin) from a solution of low saltiness (you) to a solution of high saltiness (the lake).  Without knowing it you can become very dehydrated very quickly.  It is this that kills folks when emersed in seawater for too long so in a hypersaline environment it happens much faster.

ya Reg, and one drop in your nose or mouth is brutal.  According to Antman, Rsoles wasn't that salty but the limestone is brutal....you should see his feet.   If sailing these locations, trick will be not to fall in.

Flex, your videos are the best. You have a knack of making them interesting with all your little subtitles and sped up bits.

Most windsurfing videos lose my attention very early.
