Melville Beach, WA, AU

7.9m KAR, 82cm barge, 33WSP. Gusty southerly front so escaped work for a bit of a cruise. Found one nice gust for 41 on the dial and 38.4kt 10 sec. Stoked with that! Been ages since I got a 41 on the big board, and thats definitely a PB for big board with 7.9m. I've only gone faster on that size sail a long time ago at sandy pt on a small speed board with a 7.8m- in a lot more wind.

Good to see a few other nutters out there on an unexpectedly good day.

Chris, not only a master of speed but of navigation..running a 33 fin in that water depth is pretty impressive.  I was running 24 and dredged if not flat strap. Only you and I were in the shallows today I think.  Looking at your tracks you manage to stay outside the light sand shallower bits at all times. Maybe easy when you can see them but many times the light is such you can't see these light bits but you still manage to avoid regardless. Of course running 10 knots faster than me at all times probably helps a lot.

cheers guys. Jim it was a bit challenging to navigate around the shallow spots. There was no stopping or gybing in those areas. Certainly couldn't just fire it up and hope for the best. Earlier (less clouds, higher sun?) I could just see where they were, but later it was almost impossible with the light the way it was. I scraped the bottom once heading out- the shallow bit was completely hidden due to shadows from the clouds I think. I need polarised sunnies... the ebay specials I bought said they were polarised but they definitely are not.
